NeSmith Late Models Close Winter Shootout With Cochran, GA Daytime Duels

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will close out the first RockAuto.com Winter Shootout this Saturday afternoon and this Sunday afternoon with a pair of Daytime Duels at Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran, GA. The Saturday afternoon race will be 40 laps and $2,000-to-win, and the Sunday afternoon race will be 50 laps and $2,500-to-win.

The RockAuto.com Winter Shootout was scheduled to be an eight race series, but one rainout for Round 2 has shortened it to seven races. The Daytime Duels this weekend at Cochran Motor Speedway will be the final two races for the Winter Shootout. The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series regular point season will begin on April 8-9 at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, TN.

In five starts, Chase Edge leads the RockAuto.com Winter Shootout point standings with one win, three top five finishes and five top ten finishes. Edge will be looking to claim the Championship and the lion’s share of the point fund money. Second-place Cale Conley of Vienna, WV and third-place Ryan King of Seymour, TN are also looking to grab point fund money.

RockAuto.com Winter Shootout race winners so far this season include William Thomas of Phenix City, AL, Josh Richards of Shinnston, WV, Kyle Bronson of Brandon, FL, Edge, and David Smith of Inman, SC. A total of 132 different drivers from 16 different states have competed in the first five races.

Thomas won the season opener on January 10 at the 25th Annual Icebowl at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. Richards and Bronson won Bubba’s Winternationals events on January 29 and 30 respectively at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL. Edge and Smith were winners on February 5 and 7 respectively at Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, GA as a part of the Super Bowl of Racing.

NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series competitors and fans are anxious to return to Cochran Motor Speedway after last year’s exciting action that saw two and three-wide competition throughout the entire field. More of the same, and then some, is expected this Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon for the Daytime Duels.

Race teams and race fans alike coming from the Atlanta, GA area and northward are reminded that this is also NASCAR weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, GA, and that traffic will be heavy this weekend south of Atlanta on I-75, especially through the construction areas around Atlanta Motor Speedway. Extra time will be needed to get to Cochran Motor Speedway if using this route.

The on track action for the Daytime Duels at Cochran Motor Speedway will begin with an Open Practice Session on Friday night. Gates open at 2 p.m., with practice from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. On both Saturday and Sunday, the pit gate opens at 10 a.m. with NeSmith Late Model Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 2 p.m., with Hot Laps at 2:30 p.m.
