Wet Grounds Force Cancellation Of The Durrence Layne Racing VP Nationals

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Wet and saturated grounds at Talladega Short Track after hours of heavy rain have forced cancellation of the VP Nationals at the Eastaboga, AL racing facility for the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series, and four other Durrence Layne Racing Divisions that was scheduled for Saturday night.

With the Friday night portion of the VP Nationals already being scrubbed to wet weather, race officials determined that the track and the pit area were just too saturated with moisture to make the track ready for racing on Saturday.

“With the rain that has already fallen, and not much, if any, sun in the forecast, it has made it pretty much impossible to get the track prepared for racing on Saturday,” Durrence Layne Racing Founder and CEO Mike Vaughn said. “We know the pits would also be a muddy mess, but we will try next year to move the date up to a more suitable time for the VP Nationals.”

With the cancellation of the VP Nationals, that brings to a close the 2018 Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series season. Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN has captured his third Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series National Championship. Jake Knowles of Rome, GA will finish in the second spot.

Chase King of Seymour, TN takes the third position in the final point standings, and will also win the 2018 Chevy Super Series Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year Award. Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL and Zach Pilcher of Rome, GA will finish the 2018 season tied for the fourth position in the point standings.
