2023 at the Hornet"s Nest, the Talladega Short Track here in central Alabama is on track for the biggest season since opening in 1977. Under the command of Adam Stewart and company, it will be.
On the racing front it will indeed be the biggest. On tap April Nascar weekend the track will pay the state's largest ever dirt payoff with the $50,000-to-win World of Outlaw Late Models on Saturday proceeded by 2 features the night before of $4000 each.
The World of Outlaw Sprint cars come back after about a decade with a Friday night 1-day show in March. The Comp Cams series is penciled for a 2-day gig with Friday having a $5-grander and Saturday and $10-grander.
August will have the Governors cup with a $10,000-to-win Super Show. The Ice Bowl will kick off January with another edition as last year had about 375 cars competing. There will be a least 5 Crate Racing USA Series events, special events for all weekly classes and much more to come.
The Facility, a reconfigure and resurface of the track and dirt itself will start soon. It will be contoured to facilitate better racing. Then the 2 big additions, turns 1 & 2 will have a new state of the art concrete wall and fencing to make the track safer and speed up the clean-up during the races. Whelen Safety lights are already in place on the corners and elsewhere. Lights have been replaced and upgraded to illuminate the track even better for our weekly live stream and touring series.
The pits have been expanded, more drainage work done as well. Trees have been trimmed as well. Penciled in as well are new state of the art restrooms in the very large pits with more lighting as well. Many other infrastructure improvements and enhancements have been completed. There are other new goodies coming to Talladega down the road. We do our absolute best and running tight weekly shows at a very fair price and bring in specials dotted thru out the season.
TST is making these changes today and next year to keep things modern and up to date.
