Thomas, Jr grabs USCS Fall Nats. Late Models @Riverside

Carl Thomas, Jr. captures USCS Fall Nationals Late Model contest at Riverside

West Memphis, AR – November 15, 2016 –Dirt Late Model driver Carl Thomas, Jr. from West Memphis, Arkansas won the “Rage at the River” Late Model portion of the USCS Fall Nationals at Riverside International Speedway on Saturday night (Nov. 12th). Thomas led the final 24 laps around the slick surface of the historic ¼ mile Gumbo clay oval into the www.rockauto.com USCS Victory Lane after passing K&N Filters Pole Positon starter and 2016 Riverside track Champion, Bubba Wilburn on lap two. The win was worth $1500 to Thomas.

Wilburn from Southaven, MS was the K&N Filters Pole Position starter after winning the 12-lap K&N Filters Pole Scramble for the Late Models on Friday night. Carl Thomas, Jr. started outside of the front row next to Wilburn. Thomas grabbed the lead on lap two and led the event until the checkers fell. There were numerous caution periods, but, Thomas held off the field of challengers through all of those.

The 2016 Riverside International Speedway open wheel modified division Champion Brandon Poppenheimer, who also competed in the K&N USCS Modified division all weekend, started third in the Late Model main event. Poppenheimer was also able to slip past Bubba Wilburn on lap six. Poppenheimer then brought his #99 home in the runner-up spot behind Thomas.

Bubba Wilburn got the final podium position in third place. The 2015 K&N Filters USCS Outlaw Modified Champion, J.C. Waller from Atoka TN and Late Model rookie driver followed that trio in fourth place and Howard Kimbrough from Byhalia, MS rounded out the top five finishers.

Ricky Vandergriff also from West Memphis, AR, was sixth followed by Mike Carr from Lake Cormorant, MS in seventh place. Casey Rowland from Nesbit, MS, who also competed in the USCS winged sprint car division, followed in eighth place. Nathan Brown from Marion, AR who also competed in the K&N USCS Modified and Street Stock divisions finished in ninth place and Tim Howard from Southaven, MS completed the top ten drivers.
