Ponderosa Speedway New Owners Sharon and Mark Naylor; 2018 Schedule Announced

JUNCTION CITY, KY- February 12, 2018 – Ponderosa Speedway will enter the 2018 season with a new lease owner as local area business duo Sharon and Mark Naylor have purchased the lease to the track for the upcoming 2018 racing season and plan to operate the 3/8-mile D-shaped clay oval with a special-event only schedule in what will be the 46th season of dirt track competition at the famed track.

The pair have named Chris Tilley of Somerset, Ky. as the promoter/general manager of the historic track that ran its first event back in September of 1972. The track will also continue to operate on the track’s traditional Friday night date, with only one Saturday event scheduled at the track for the upcoming 2018 season.

A pair of open practice dates are set for Friday March 23 and Saturday March 24. The practice on Friday March 23 will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., while the Saturday March 24 practice will be from Noon until 6:00 p.m. For these practice, admission will be free in the general admission area, while a pit pass will be $10.

The first racing of the 2018 season will be on Friday April 20 with the 6th Annual Spring Showdown, featuring the Schaffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuel and Tennessee RV, with Super Late Models racing for $4,000 to win. Also in competition on Friday April 20 will be Crate Late Models racing for $800 to win, KDRA Super Stocks racing for $500 to win, and KDRA Four Cylinders racing for $400. Ticket prices for the April 20 Spring Showdown event in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, with children ages 12 and under free, while a pit pass will be $35.

The action at Ponderosa Speedway will take place on Friday June 15 as the track will have an open practice that evening from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Admission will be free in the general admission area, with a pit pass going for $10. Racing returns one week later on Friday June 22 as the 21st Annual Pete Abell Memorial will take place featuring the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com, paying $5,000 to win. Other divisions in competition at the Pete Abell Memorial on Friday June 22 will be Crate Late Models racing for $800 to win, Open Wheel Modifieds racing for $500 to win/$100 to start, KDRA Super Stocks racing for $500 to win, and KDRA Four Cylinders racing for $400 to win. Ticket prices for the June 22 Pete Abell Memorial event in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, with children ages 12 and under free, with a pit pass being $35.

The month of July will feature one event on the docket as Pepsi Family Fun Night/KDRA Summer Championship will take place on Friday July 13, with Super Late Models racing for $2,000 to win that evening, along with Crate Late Models racing for $800 to win. The KDRA Super Stocks will race for $750 to win and the American Dirt Allstars sanctioned KDRA Four Cylinders will race for $750 to win. Ticket prices for the July 13 Pepsi Family Fun Night/KDRA Summer Championship in the general admission area will be $15 for adults, with children ages 12 and under free, while a pit pass will be $35.

Two events are planned for the month of August, with the first of those events being the 3rd Annual Big Daddy Classic on Friday August 17. Super Late Models will race for $3,088 to win and Crate Late Models will race for $1,088 to win. Open Wheel Modifieds will be in action for $588 to win/$100 to start, KDRA Super Stock will also compete for $588 to win, while KDRA Four Cylinders will pay $488 to win. Ticket prices for the August 17 Big Daddy Classic event in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, with children ages 12 and under free, with a pit pass going for $35. The month of August concludes with the 14th Annual John Bradshaw Memorial event that will feature the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, with Super Late Models racing for $12,000 to win. Also in action at the John Bradshaw Memorial on Friday August 31 will be Crate Late Models racing for $800 to win, KDRA Super Stocks racing for $500 to win, and KDRA Four Cylinders racing for $400 to win. Ticket prices for the John Bradshaw Memorial on Friday August 31 in the general admission area will be $30 for adults, with children ages 12 and under free, while a pit pass will be $45.

The final events at Ponderosa Speedway will take place in October as the track will host an open practice on Thursday October 11 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. with admission to the general admission area free, while a pit pass will be $10. The 17th Annual Hugh “Junebug” Rowland Memorial will go the next evening on Friday October 12 and will feature the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuel and Tennessee RV, with the Super Late Models racing for $3,000 to win that evening. Joining the Super Late Models at the “Junebug” Memorial on Friday October 12 will be Crate Late Models racing for $800 to win, KDRA Super Stocks racing for $500 to win, and KDRA Four Cylinders racing for $400 to win. Ticket prices for the “Junebug” Memorial on Friday October 12 in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, while children ages 12 and under will be free, and a pit pass will be $35. The final event of the 2018 season will be the only Saturday night on the schedule for 2018 and will be the track’s 28th Annual Fall Classic on Saturday October 13, featuring the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuel and Tennessee RV, paying $10,000 to win for Super Late Models. The Crate Late Models will race for $1,500 to win that evening, while the American Dirt Allstars sanctioned KDRA Super Stocks will compete in the Bobby Carrier, Sr. Memorial for $1,000 to win, along with KDRA Four Cylinders racing for $400 to win. Ticket prices for the Saturday October 13 Fall Classic event in the general admission area will be $25 for adults, with children ages 12 and under free, while a pit pass will be $40.

Also of note, an additional $100 to win will be added to the KDRA Super Stock and KDRA Four Cylinder feature winner on a night they have 18 or more entries for an event for them. For each event, the pit area will open at 3:00 p.m., with the general admission area opening at 5:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. and practice laps will begin at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
