Johnson, Gabbert, Watson, and McCarty Score Spring Shootout Wins at Richmond Raceway

Richmond, KY-April 18, 2015- Richmond Raceway would present its Spring Shootout on Saturday evening at “The Beast of the East” and Greg Johnson of Bedford, IN would pick up the $5,000 payday for the Barry Turner of Century 21 Advantage Realty Super Late Models. Russ Gabbert of Berea, KY would claim the $1,000 win in the American Dirt Allstars KDRA Super Stock main event. Other feature event winners included Jeff Watson of Campbellsville, KY in Modifieds and Dave McCarty of Owingsville, KY in Four Cylinders.

Greg Johnson would take the lead at the drop of the green flag on the 40 lap, $5,000 to win Barry Turner of Century 21 Advantage Realty Super Late Model main event and the only thing would slow the Hoosier state native would be a trio of caution flags during the course of the contest that would slow the action. Johnson would claim the win aboard the Gary Engle owned Carthage Auto Parts/Jay Construction/Genesis Racing Shocks sponsored #15 Revelution Race Car entry. Victor Lee and Dustin Linville would have a spirited battle for second throughout the contest, with Lee ending up in the runner-up spot, with Linville claiming the final podium position. Stephen Breeding would finish in the fourth position, while Brad Neat would make a late race charge on the top side of the track to claim the fifth position. The remainder of the top ten would be Chris Combs, Derek Fisher, Tim Tungate, Todd Coffman, and Johnny Wheeler. Seventeen entries would see Kenneth Howell as top qualifier at 15.443 seconds, while Johnson and Aaron Hatton scored heat race victories.

The American Dirt Allstars KDRA Super Stock main event would see Russ Gabbert and Jamey Adams battle side-by-side for the first seven laps of the contest before Adams claimed the top spot on lap 8 and appeared to be headed for victory when mechanical gremlins would strike Adams and give the lead back to Gabbert, who would drive on to the win in the Dan Ramey owned Ramey Motorsports/Ramey Race Engines sponsored #4 Chevy Monte Carlo. Glen Hounshell, Jr. would charge from the rear of the field after an early race spin to finish second, while Eddie Stewart would finish in third. Trae Soper and 16th starting Daniel Howard would round out the top five. Completing the top ten would be 18th starting Bill Robinson, Derek Bottoms, Kevin Greer, Chad Barrett, and James Crowe. Twenty-nine entries would see Adams as top qualifier at 16.618 seconds, with Adams, Dean Boyd, Allen Hackworth, Jr., and Gabbert taking heat wins, while Jeremy Howard would claim the B-Main win.

The Modified feature contest would see Jeff Watson take the lead at the start and never look back to claim victory in the seat of his Shofner Enterprises/Brad Burton Dairy Farms sponsored #11 Tomahawk Race Car powered by a Frank Ofria Race Engine. Mikah Reams and Scott Lemaster would wage an entertaining battle for second, with Reams taking the spot over Lemaster, while Keith Smith and Dennis Roberson would complete the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Jim Robinson, Wade Rookard, Cody Smith, Brent Estes, and Tim Patrick. Seventeen entries saw Keith Smith as top qualifier at 16.276 seconds, with Watson and Reams scoring heat race victories.

The Four Cylinder main event would feature fourth place starting Dave McCarty grab the lead on the opening lap and never be headed in claiming the victory in his Swartz Enterprises sponsored #AR-15 Ford Mustang. Tyler Hayes and Dylan Stephens would finish second and third, while Jeremy Cantrell and Dalton Cox would drive to fourth and fifth place finishes. The rest of the top ten would be Brian Ferguson, Jon Garland, Jamison Gipson, Daniel Jackson, and Stacy Harrison. Twelve entries would see heat race checkered flags fall to Ferguson and Hayes.
