Schaeffer’s Iron-Man Championship Series 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic at Ponderosa Speedway May 12
Junction City, KY (May 7, 2017)- Ponderosa Speedway track promoter Jamie Stumph and co-owner Larry Redenius are set to present the 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic on Friday May 12 at the 3/8 mile D-shaped red clay oval better known as “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring” with the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Series Super Late Models in action for $3,088 to win, along with the Pro (Crate) Late Models ($1,288 to win), Open Wheel Modifieds ($788 to win), KDRA Super Stocks ($688 to win), Stock Four Cylinders ($388 to win), and Mini-Cup/Cyclones ($188 to win).
Of note, the Friday Night Thunder event for the KDRA Super Stocks that has been postponed two consecutive weeks due to inclement weather will now take place as part of the Red Clay Bash event at the track on Friday May 26. Also, the Pro (Crate) Late Model will continue to race separately in their own division and the top qualifier for the Pro (Crate) Late Model portion of the Big Daddy Classic will receive $88 courtesy of Absolute Pest Control.
The 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic will take place on Friday May 12 and will feature the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series in a full program of practice, time trials, qualifying heats, B-Mains, and the 30 lap, $3,088 to win/$250 to start 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic A-Main. Also in competition on Friday May 12 at the 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic will be the track;s Pro (Crate) Late Models racing for $1,288 to win, Open Wheel Modifieds racing for $788 to win, KDRA Super Stocks racing for $688 to win, Stock Four Cylinders racing for $388 to win, and Mini-Cup/Cyclones racing for $188 to win. There will be NO entry fee for Super Late Model competitors for this event, as the track will be sponsoring all entry fees in the Super Late Model division. All division, expect for Super Late Models, will utilize the practice/time trial combo format to determine heat race starting positions. Transponder timing/scoring is used at Ponderosa Speedway and the rental fee for a transponder is $10. RACEceivers are also mandatory and are required to be in use each a competitor is on the track.
The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Series Super Late Models will sanction the Super Late Model portion of the event and the tire rule for the 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic will be as follows: Hoosier 1350 and 1600; American Racer 48 and 56. Tire samples will be taken and any competitor that has tire samples taken will have their money held by the track and/or series until tire test results have been reported.
This event is held to honor the memory of former longtime Ponderosa Speedway competitorLate Model competitor Paul “Big Daddy” Feistritzer, who competed for many seasons in the Super Late Model in his popular #88 at the track and scored many event victories, but concluded his career racing in the Pro Late Model division prior to his untimely death after losing his battle with cancer. Victor Lee of Danville, KY was the winner of the inaugural event in 2016 and would claim the win over Todd Coffman, Hudson O’Neal, Matt Henderson, and Jeremy Hines.
Activities for the 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday May 12 will see the pit area and general admission area gates open at 4:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m., followed immediately by practice, Super Late Model time trials, and green flag racing. Ticket prices for the 2nd Annual Big Daddy in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, with children ages 12 and under free, while a pit pass will be $35 for adults, with children ages 6 to 12 $15, and children ages 5 and under free.
