Ray Cook Wins Heat Race; Winds Up Ninth in Season-Ending Gobbler

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) The Ray Cook Racing team rolled into Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia on Saturday, November 19 for the 34th edition of the 'Gobbler,' which wrapped up their 2022 campaign. The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series sanctioned the late-season special, which drew 39 competitors to the Chattanooga-area oval to vie for the $10,000 winner's check.

Ray Cook stopped the clock second quickest in Group B during the qualifying session prior to picking up an impressive heat race triumph. After starting the 40-lap headliner from the outside of the second row, Ray unfortunately went too hard on tires and slipped back several spots on his way to a steady ninth place performance. Unless something comes up at the last minute, the #53 team has concluded their season and will start focusing on the upcoming 2023 campaign. With his promotional duties at Tri-County Race Track and with the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern / Spring Nationals Series taking up much of his time, Ray was only able to enter eleven events in 2022. The Brasstown, North Carolina ace racked up a trio of top five finishes, while amassing a total of eight top ten efforts. His best run came in a weekly Super Late Model showdown at North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia back on August 27 when Ray placed second behind only victor Kurt English.
