Night #4 Is In The Record Books One More Prelim Night
Prelim night #4 went just about as everyone who knows anything about The Chili Bowl expected it would. Christopher Bell and Buddy Kofoid finished 1-2 which transfers them into the Saturday night A-main. Bell has won every race he's competed in this week and virtually no one is the least surprised. Bell runs the Expo Center as smooth as anyone ever has. Kofoid, on the other hand, had to work for his ticket into the Saturday A-main.
There were some rough moves made tonight and I'm really surprised that there wasn't some fisticuffs given the blatancy of some of the incidents. But hey! As the saying goes, this is The Chili Bowl.
Spencer Bayston and Kofoid were fast and might would have won any other prelim night A-main but let's face it, Christopher Bell is in another zone and has been in another zone for several years with last year's Saturday night A-main being the lone exception when he ran second to Larson.
I felt especially sad for Steve Buckwalter. Buckwalter was fast all night and actually started on the pole in the A-main but got fed a questionable right rear. Not saying Steve had anything for Bell (no mere mortal does) but I think he had a shot at a 2nd place transfer or a very manageable starting spot in the Saturday night B-main but it's not to be. Anyone familiar with Buckwalter knows he is not to be trifled with and the guy who dumped him, who's name escapes me now, should have his head on a swivel if he finds himself racing anywhere near Buckwalter in the future.
Joe B. Miller gets a bit more impressive every time we see him race. Joe B. finished 5th in the A-main tonight and will be another driver who will have a legit shot at transferring into the Saturday night A-main from the B-main. We've watched Joe B. for several years at various venues and he gets better all the time. Hope he transfers Saturday night!!
