Fourth Late Model Win For Goodman At Mountain View Raceway

SPRING CITY, TN – Barry Goodman of Spring City, TN may want to play the lottery because Lady Luck was riding with him Saturday night to win the 25-lap Late Model Feature Race driving the Charlie’s Used Auto Parts CVR at Mountain View Raceway. Goodman took the lead on lap ten when early leader Addison Cardwell was involved in a wreck not of his own doing.

Goodman then held off Josh Collins of Knoxville, TN, who finished second in the Knoxville, Diesel Rocket. Jeff Jackson of Ooltewah, TN took the third spot in the Jackson Racing Longhorn and Kelby Norwood of Etowah, TN was fourth after starting 11th in the Exit Real Estate Rocket. Seth Jolley of Spring City, TN rounded out the top five in the Jolley Racing Special.

Cardwell took the lead at the start of the race followed by Goodman, Collins, Jackson and Jerry Hendrix of Chattanooga, TB in the Ware’s Heating and Air Mastersbilt. After two early caution flags on lap two and lap five, Cardwell of Knoxville, TN had pulled out to a full straightaway lead by lap ten over Goodman, the defending and three-time Late Model Track Champion.

As Cardwell worked lapped traffic, Jeremy Thurman of Rockwood, TN hit the front straightaway wall coming off turn four, as Cardwell charged off the corner on the inside. Thurman’s Thurman Racing GRT bounced off the wall and nosed across the track hitting Cardwell’s Cardwell Racing Rocket in the right-front corner eliminating both cars from the race.

Goodman took over the point for the restart and had Collins right on his back bumper for the remaining 15 laps of the race. Goodman’s margin of victory at the checkered flag was .650 seconds. It was Goodman’s fourth win of the season with a race car powered by an economical all-aluminum Chevrolet Performance CT525 Circle Track Engine.

After the race, Goodman drew for the Contingency Connection Special Award by pulling the number two. That meant the second-place finisher Collins won a $150 Product Certificate from Holley Performance. Cardwell was the Fast Qualifier with a lap in 11.501 seconds around the ¼-mile high-banked clay oval.

There were 107 race cars in the Mountain View Raceway Pit Area for the Regular Weekly Points Race for the Late Model, Sportsman, Open-Wheel Modified, 4-Cylinder, Thunder, Front-Wheel Drive, Junior Front-Wheel-Drive, and Developmental Sportsman Divisions.

Cardwell won his fifth 20-lap Sportsman Main Event in the Cardwell Racing Rocket followed by Brandon Stanfield of Soddy Daisy, TN driving the Frizzell Racing Mastersbilt and Skylar Delaney of Sparta, TN in the Delaney Racing Special.

Jimmy Dalton of Powell, TN drove the Willet Powder Coating Elite to victory in the 20-lap Open-Wheel Modified Feature Race. Scott Shelton of Sparta, TN was second in the Shelton Racing Special and Joe Freels of Coalfield, TN finished third driving the Coalhill Fabrication Mullynski.

The 15-lap 4-Cylinder Main Event was won by Gracie Duggan of Lenoir City, TN in the Duggan Racing Special, and Chase Hoffman of Dayton, TN took the 12-lap Thunder Feature Race driving the Buck’s Race Shop and Repair Dodge. Nathan Adams of Crossville , TN won his fifth straight Front-Wheel-Drive A Feature Race in the Adams Racing Chevrolet.

Savanna Merriman of Maryville, TN drove the Merriman Racing Special to victory in the 12-lap Front-Wheel-Drive B Feature Race. Chevy Adams of Crossville, TN won the ten-lap Junior Front-Wheel-Drive Main Event in the Adams Racing Chevrolet, and Bradley Scarbrow of Crossville, TN won the 15-lap Developmental Sportsman Feature Race in the Scarbrow Racing Special.

The Front-Wheel-Drive Division will take center stage on May 21 at Mountain View Raceway in a $1,000-to-win Non Points Race. There will also be Weekly Points Races for the Late Model, Sportsman, Open-Wheel Modified, B-Hobby, and Thunder Divisions. The Sharp Mini Late Models are also on the racing card.

This Saturday, the Pit Gate opens at 3 p.m. and the Grandstand and Tier Parking Gates open at 4 p.m. Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6:15 p.m. and Hot Laps are scheduled for 6:45 p.m.

Pit Passes are $25 for Adults, $15 for Children 6-11, and Children 5 and under are admitted Free. The General Admission and Tier Parking ticket prices are $10 for race fans 12 and older, Children 6-11 are $5. and Children 5 and under are admitted Free. All Children must be accompanied by an Adult.
