Raced the old DW8 last night. It is still a 9" rearend car and has a 5.29 in it. Motor only turned 6800 heat and then 7100 feature. I need to get it up to about 7600-7800. Any thoughts on ratio to go to?

What were you running with the quickchange?
Never ran this motor in the car with the QC. The last motor that was in this old car was 421 about 2 years ago and it was good with the 5.29. I can borrow a 3rd member that is 5.42 - but I would like to be good on the ratio when I change it.
Is changing the gear a big job for you?
When you get to be my age alot of things are not as easy as they used be - trust me.
Anyway, thanks for the advice on the 5.83. That is the sugestion(s) I am looking for.
I think it's about 200-300rpm per 9in gear jump.
I looked and I have a 6.00 on the shelf. I just don't want the car to be done at or before the flagstand. You know how the Bowl can be.
Put it in and put the chip at 7800. Dyno sheets on the motor and how fast it falls off?
I will change gears at least 4 times this week.

I am not sure of the exact point you are trying to make, so I will say this: I wish we had the opportunities to race that many times a week, at least one of the cars I own and sponsor would be a part of it.
Now on another note let me just say that I sincerely hope that you or anyone else NEVER-EVER has to go thru what I am dealing with. There was a time when I would have been able to change the 3rd member in a 9" Ford 9 times before breakfast and another dozen times before lunch. I wish I still could. Please enjoy your racing and your good health every day that you can.
7600 RPM /7100 RPM X 5.29 = 5.66 For 7600 RPM I would run a 5.67
7800 RPM /7100 RPM X 5.29 = 5.81 For 7800 RPM I would run a 5.83
Thanks for the info Powerglides.
