Chilton Claims 6th Annual Spring Showdown for Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals at Ponderosa Speedway

Junction City, KY- April 20, 2018 – Ponderosa Speedway would present its first event of the 2108 racing season on Friday evening as the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals presented by Sunoco Race Fuels and Tennessee RV would sanction the 6th Annual Spring Showdown and Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY would claim the $4,000 victory in the 40-lap contest. Other feature event winners included Connor Meade of Clay City, KY in Crate Late Models, Eddie Stewart of Manchester, KY in KDRA Super Stocks, Tyler Hayes of Pine Ridge, KY in KDRA Four Cylinders, and Cody Sisson of Talbott, TN in United CC Mod Lites

Eddie Carrier, Jr. would lead the first twenty-eight circuits of the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Super Late Model feature event until Michael Chilton would win a four lap, side-by-side battle with Carrier, Jr. on lap twenty-nine when Chilton would use a slower car for a pick to gain the advantage over Carrier, Jr. and drive away in the final ten laps of the event to score the victory. Carrier, Jr. would finish in the second position, while Aaron Ridley would tally the third finishing position. Eric Wells and Jason Jameson would complete the top five finishers. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Stephen Breeding, Casey Roberts, Zach Leonhardi, Jason Miller, and Todd Coffman.

Connor Meade would grab the lead at the drop of the green flag on the twenty lap Crate Late Model feature and would fend off the challenges of Jeff Watson to score the $800 payday. Watson would settle for runner-up honors, while Matthew Smith would take the third position. Derek Bottoms and Elliott Despain would finish fourth and fifth respectively. Completing the top ten in Crate Late Model feature action would be Zane Powell, Justin Smith, Tim Tungate, Dustin Bradshaw, and Brian Royalty.

Eddie Stewart would dominate the action in the KDRA Super Stock feature event and lead all fifteen circuits to take the victory. David Stamper would fend off the challenges of Tyler Collis for the second position, with Collis having to settle for the third position. Greg Hensley, Robert Stanton, Tommy Helm, and Wade Daniels would complete the feature finishing order.

Tyler Hayes would also show dominance, but it would be in the KDRA Four Cylinder feature contest by claiming a flag-to-flag victory. Trailing Hayes at the finish in the second position would be Justin Dalton, with Dylan Stevens taking a third-place finish. Doodle Farris and Shane Irvin would complete the top five finishers. Dwayne Schluster would head the finishers in position six through ten, followed by Brian Moore, T.J. Wright, Brady Lear, and Bo Morris.

The United CC Mod Lites would complete the race program with a twenty lap event that would see Cody Sisson outdistance John Pitts for the victory. Will Bennett would finish third, with fourth and fifth positions being claimed by Chris Robinson and Gavin Taylor. Completing the top ten finishers would be Jody Brannon, Joey Sisk, Brandon Shaw, Ronnie Choate, and Michael Kelly.

The next event at Ponderosa Speedway will be on Friday June 22 and will be the 21st Annual Pete Abell Memorial, featuring the Schaeffer Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series, racing for $5,000 to win. Also in action at the Pete Abell Memorial on Friday June 22 will be Crate Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, KDRA Super Stocks, and KDRA Four Cylinders.
