Pete Abell Memorial $3,000 to win for Iron-Man Late Models at Ponderosa Speedway Friday August 4
Junction City, KY- July 30, 2017- Ponderosa Speedway track promoter Jamie Stumph and co-owner Larry Redenius will kick off the month of August with a special event near and dear to many local fans in the region as the track will present the 20th Annual Pete Abell Memorial that will feature the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series racing for $3,000 to win and the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series racing for $1,000 to win, along with a full racing program for Pro (Crate) Late Models, KDRA Super Stocks, Stock Four Cylinders, and Mini-Cup/Cyclones.
The 20th Annual Pete Abell Memorial event will take place at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday August 4 and will feature the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series in action in a $3,000 to win main event, along with the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series racing for $1,000 to win. Also on the Pete Abell Memorial racing program on Friday August 4 will be the track’s Pro (Crate) Late Models racing for $800 to win, KDRA Super Stocks racing for $600 to win, Stock Four Cylinders racing for $300 to win, and Mini-Cup/Cyclones racing for $100 to win. All divisions, except for the Super Late Models, will utilize the practice/time trial combo format to determine heat race starting positions. Transponder timing/scoring is used at Ponderosa Speedway and the rental fee for a transponder is $10. RACEceivers are also mandatory and are required to be in use each a competitor is on the track.
The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Series will sanction the Super Late Model portion of the program and the entry fee for the Super Late Model division will be $50 and the tire rules will be as follows: Hoosier 1350 and 1600 or American Racer 48 and 56 on all four corners of the race cars. Tire samples will be taken and any driver that has tire samples taken will have their prize money held by the track and/or series until the tire test results have been reported by the testing lab. The Super Late Model car and driver weight rules for this event will be as follows: 2350 lbs. for an Open Motor, 2300 lbs. for a Steel Block/Aluminum Head - Spec Motor Only (8" spoiler allowed, 12" sides), 2250 lbs. for a CT525 Motor (8" spoiler allowed) and 2250 lbs. for an all Steel Motor or Crate Motor (8" spoiler allowed, 12" sides). There will be a pound per lap burnoff plus 5 lbs. in Heats, B-Mains, and in the Feature event.
The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series will sanction the Open Wheel Modified portion of the event and the entry fee for the Open Wheel Modified division will be $20 and the tire rule will be as follows: Front- Medium, A40S, M-30s, A40, Hard, H40, & M-60 (siping allowed on front due to carry-over from 2016 season); Rear- Hoosier A40S, M-30S, A40, Hard, H40, M-60 and American Racer Hard and Extra Hard with no grooving allowed. The only tires that can be siped on the rear is the Hoosier M-60 and American Racer Extra Hard. The car and driver weight rule for the Open Wheel Modified division is 2400 lbs.
Activities for the 20th Annual Pete Abell Memorial on Friday August 4 at Ponderosa Speedway will see the pit area and general admission area gates open at 4:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m., followed immediately by practice and time trials, and green flag racing. Ticket prices for the 20th Annual Pete Abell Memorial on Friday August 4 in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, with children age 12 and under free. A pit pass will be $35 for adults, with children ages 6 to 12 being $15, while children ages 5 and under are free.
