Measure from the top of the wrist pin hole to the top of the piston. Then take a piston that you know is a 5.7 or a 6.0 and measure it. This will tell you right away what is what. Or you can mock it.

Remember on the rod bolts to go by bolt stretch. Get yourself a rod bolt stretch gauge.

$1400 is very reasonable for everything but replacing parts. I have paid $1600 before to do all of the above plus balancing and dyno w/ a high quality machine shop.

If you're going to do all that anyways might as well and have it looked over completely.

Easiest thing to do here is get a slick track carb by willy's w/ adjustable vacuum secondaries.

Do a leak down test, you're most likely ready for a rebuild w/ some fresh piston rings.

Sprint cars also rebuild their engines every 4-5 nights out.

A late model engine would be a better example IMO.
