Shorten the low gear linkage rod. Had the same problem when I started. With the rod a tad too long it will not come out of low and the trans will NOT shift into high gear.

Take the 4 bolts out of the bellhousing and rotate the trans until the bleeder is at the highest point. Then bleed normally, like a brake caliper.
