Default 1st Wave of 2011 UFo Schedule & Payoffs Announced!

UFo Race Championship Announces Initial 2011 Dates and Payoffs!

(MARS PA) – With a successful 2010 season just being completed, the UFo Race Championship is ready to move forward into the upcoming season. Participating tracks have announced the first wave of 14 events for 2011. Additional dates will be added to the schedule as they are confirmed, with the schedule topping out at approximately 18 to 20 events.

The UFo Race Championship will pay out $17,500 in point fund distributions among the top 10 drivers in the 2010 standings. Chad McCellan of Stoystown, PA won the 2010 UFo Race Championship by just 1 point over Keith Barbara of South, Park PA. Both drivers traded the points lead throughout the season in a chase that came down to the final event. John Mollick of Toronto, OH finished 3rd followed by Danny Mitchell of Clarksburg, PA and Tommy Beck of Jeannette, PA. Jared Miley of South Park, PA, Jared Hawkins of Fairmont, WV, Doug Horton of Bruceton Mills, WV, Jim Stephans of Baldwin, PA and John Flinner of Zelienople, PA rounded out the top 10. The solid point fund was made possible thanks to generous sponsorships from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic, Lias Tire/American Racer and Townsend Gas & Oil VP Distributor.

The 2011 UFo Race Championship will feature increased start and tow money, to better distribute winnings among all race teams that participate. $3,000 to win events will pay $300 to start, $4,000 to win events will pay $350 to start and $5,000 to win events will pay $400 to start. All non-qualifiers will also receive an increase to $150, which is the highest of any regional tour. With no car entry fee being deducted from the standard payoffs as typically found at higher paying Super Late Model events, that translates to much higher actual payoffs to the race teams at UFo events. The 2011 payoff structure has been formulated to increase car counts. The increased start and tow money along with the continued elimination of entry fees will make it worthwhile for more regional race teams to attend UFo events.

The 2011 UFo Race Championship tour continues to gain strength in the region with excellent racing action and strong fields of cars. The 2010 UFo Race Championship featured the highest average car count of all Super Late Model regional tours in the Northeast. Each event averaged 34 cars with the 2010 highest car count of 70 at Tyler County. The average starting positions for the top 5 feature finishers were 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th and 9th. UFo races featured a high amount of passing and clean racing with few multi-car incidents. The tour is dedicated to continue these high-quality events into the future.

Mercer Raceway Park will once again be the site of the UFo season opener with the “Chiller Thriller” on Saturday, March 26. The 2011 “Chiller Thriller” will feature and increased payoff from the 2010 event. The UFo Super Late Models will compete for $3,000 to win and $300 to start in a 41-lap championship feature. The feature starting grid will be determined by extended lap heat races and consolation race(s) using the thrilling UFo format.

The 2010 “Chiller Thriller” was an amazing race with 4-car battles for the lead throughout the distance. When the checker flag was waved, Mike Knight of Ripley, NY had taken the win from his 15th starting position followed by Chad Valone, who raced from 12th.

Tyler County Speedway will return to the UFo Race Championship for 2011 with 4 events. The “Topless 51” will pay $4,000 to win on Saturday, April 9. In 2011, “Beacher-Eaton Dueling Thunder” will be added to the UFo schedule on Saturday, June 4. This will be a twin feature format event paying a total of $4,000 to win. The long-running “Earl Hill Championship” will take place on Saturday, July 2, also paying $4,000 to win. The UFo Race Championship will once again kick off the mega-“Black Diamond” weekend with the “WV State Championship” on Friday night, September 2.

Paul Wilmoth Jr of Clarksburg, WV, Jared Hawkins of Fairmont, WV and Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA captured UFo wins at Tyler County in 2010. The “WV State Championship” at Tyler County produced the highest car count of the season, with a whopping 70 Super Late Models in attendance.

The UFo home port at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway will also host 4 events in the upcoming season, all co-sanctioned with the United Late Model Series from the northern tier. The PENNational scheduled for Saturday, May 14 will feature the thrilling twin 28 format with $4,000 total to win. The amazing “F-2 Shockwave” will rock the Monster Half-Mile on Saturday, July 23, also paying $4,000 total to win for the twin 28 lap format. The “Red Miley Rumble” on Saturday, August 20 will pay at least $4,053 to win. The “Tri-Star Pittsburgher” featuring UFo/ULMS Super Late Models, BRP Big Block Modifieds and 410 Outlaw Sprints will finish off the season at PPMS on September 15-16-17. The UFo/ULMS Super Late Models will compete for $7,000 on Saturday, September 17 with a bonus $2,000 feature on Friday, September 16.

2010 UFo winners at PPMS were Mark Banal of St. Clairsville, OH, John Mollick of Toronto, OH, John Flinner from Zelienople, PA, Mike Johnson from Imperial, PA and Davey Johnson from Latrobe, PA. 45 cars attended the 2010 “Red Miley Rumble” at PPMS.

Thunder Valley Raceway will return to the UFo alliance with an additional event in 2011. The “Shawn McGarvey Showdown” on Saturday, May 21 and the “Willie Will Tribute” on Saturday, June 18 will feature 38 lap features paying $3,000 to win. TVR attempted to host a UFo event 3 times in 2010 with bad weather forcing cancellation of those events.

Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex will host 3 UFo events including the 2011 UFo finale. “Supernational Road” on Saturday, July 17 will showcase a 41-lap feature paying $3,000 to win. The annual “King of the Knob” will take place on Saturday, September 10 paying $4,000 to win. Roaring Knob has become the new home of “The Ultimate”, scheduled for October 6-7-8. “The Ultimate” will pay $5,000 to win the 55-lap feature on Saturday, October 8 with the “Night Flight” preliminary Super Late Model feature on Friday, October 7 paying another $2,000 to the winner.

Dog Hollow Speedway will also be participating in the UFo Race Championship in 2011 with a date to be determined. Jason Covert or York Haven, PA won UFo “Revolution 2010” at Dog Holllow with a late-race pass. That event featured 42 UFo Super Late Models.

Mel Minnick, Jr of Uniontown, PA, Jeremy Miller of Gettysburg, PA, Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsburg, MD and Jason Covert of York Haven, PA won thrilling UFo features on the supertrack at Roaring Knob in 2010. The season-high car count at Roaring Knob was 44 cars for “The Ultimate.”

Minor changes are being made to the 2011 UFo car rules and procedures, which should be published in December. The all-aluminum, 525 horsepower, $9,000 GM 525 motor will still be included as a competitive option. This motor will allow more teams to enter Super Late Model competition in 2011 at a reasonable motor price. Some spoiler rules are being adjusted in 2011 on the GM 525 option, which are the only planned car rule changes for the upcoming season. Several weekly tracks will be allowing the 525 motor option for 2011 including PPMS, Roaring Knob, Tyler County, Thunder Valley and Dog Hollow.
