    Default Rod Bolt Question

I have a question about installing new rod bolts in a SBC rod. I just read that you must have the rod end resized after installing new rod bolts. Is this true? I just had the rods magnufluxed and the machine shop knew I was going to install new bolts, I would have thought they would try to whack me for the dollars to resize them if it were a must. Thanks for your input.

It is the ONLY way to make sure that the rod end stays round.

Usually when a connecting rod is rebuilt....they knock out the bolts, machine the mating surfaces of the rod/cap, install new bolts, then resize. Because the bolt is supposed to have an interference fit...it can swell the area where the bolt is at. Have seen some move as much as a half thousand (.0005). A shop I use to work at back in the day would have us mic the bolt and ream the hole accordingly. But we still resized them anyway.
