    Default sb-2 engine blocks

nascar has had good results from the sb-2 . arent they all 358 ci engines ? what do they do with the worn out blocks ? do they have sleves in them ? i'm just thinking that there have to be alot of them laying around somewhere if the bore can only be 358 and nascar dont normally use stuff up completely . are other divisions buying them up , or what ? would a sb-2 make a good dirt track engine ????? enlighten me

NASCAR stuff has been making it's way into DLM's and other forms of racing for years. A lot of the time its lesser funded teams who can't afford a NEW professionally built engine. We had a SABCO(Kyle Petty) qualifying engine we bought back in the late 90's, but it wasn't as well suited for dirt as one built specifically for DLM. I worked on a team in 02' and 03' that ran some Ernie Elliot built Ford motors based on Cup Tech, but it wasn't well suited for DLM either, unless you ran Eldora, the old Golden Isles or Cherokee tracks every week... Cup parts, (pistons, cranks, rods, blocks) are all fine, but the head and cams can be tricky to adapt to dirt. There is NASCAR stuff for sale all over www.racingjunk.com/ (Truck, NNS & Cup).

the sb2 stuff makes a lot of power and if you buy straight from one of the teams try for a roadcourse motor.they are much better suited for dirt.I have a good friend that goes down once or twice a month to buy from most of the top teams and a few of the engine specialist.the blocks are harded to get than one might think.he has 4 complete sb2 engine built for arca team for around ten grand each.one of the draw backs is the wt# of that engine they are quit heavy unless you get an aluminum block.

They use the blocks up pretty much also, You have to remember that a CUP 358 still has a minimum of a 4.155 bore.

that would be the same as boring a normal 350 out to .040 . right ? i know we get another bore from ours (.060) . but its best if its run on alky at that bore (they run so much cooler on alky) .

No, a standard 350 is 4.000. So 4.155 is, .155 BIGGER, which is 5 times over bored for a std. 350.

I have some sb2 parts here and the cup engines start with a 4.117 piston and go up from ther.they run .010 piston clearance.most run closer 357 cu in. do to nascar testing them after a 500 mile race.

yes same bore as 400 but with 350 mains and large cam tunnel.you can bore the nascar blocks 4.185 and still have some cylinder wall strength left.you can build a 430 plus cu in. sb2 just don't use a stoke 400 block.

nice ..... that would make a great spec/crate style engine ( if nascar would pass em down to some of us - reasonably priced ) . i would think there would be a mass amount of them that teams have to retire anyway . i think they would be a great base for a good dirt track engine . jmo
