    Default Horse Power

    Whats average horse power for a 383 or 358 motor to go into a modified? Just wondering what the average horse power for both is

    depends on what ya have for other parts heads cam carb ect a motor builder will need to know those things to give ya a est on hp

    a 383 that has around 450Hp. Is that good or bad or about average. Im not sure what components this motor has. Just an idea

    For a street car on pump gas ,thats not too bad. But for a full blown mod, thats not even close.
    To be competitive, you need another 150+hp on tacky tracks.

    Hpontap is correct. I have one of each motors you are talking about. The 388 makes around 650 and the 358 around 630. Both have good pieces in them so they will live.
    That being said there are guys that are real fast and do not have high power, but it never hurts to have extra if you need it.

    i think it depends if you're running imca or ump. 525-550 hp in imca with the harder tires is probably plenty.
