Thunder Valley Prepares for 2011 Racing Season- 1/29/11

Thunder Valley has announced its racing schedule for the 2011 racing season. For the fourteenth year the roar of auto racing will return to beautiful Somerset County this April.

The season will begin in mid-April with the traditional pre-season car show; final details of this event will be released in the coming weeks. The season will officially kick off on Saturday night April 30th, with an open test and tune day scheduled the week before.

As in the past, regular Saturday night programs will feature Late Models, Semi Lates, Pure Stocks and Four Cylinders. New for this year will be the addition of the Cruiser division. This unique entry level division is designed to maximize participation with very affordable racing, and is specifically designed to prevent cars from “evolving” and becoming more costly.

Thunder Valley will again feature a stellar Late Model program each Saturday night. Last year there was an amazing 11 feature winners in 12 events, with an average of 21 cars on hand each week. Highlights of the schedule include visits from the UFo Super Late Model Series for the Shawn McGarvey Showdown on May 21st and the Willie Will Tribute on June 18th. The stars of the Three State Flyer Series will return on Friday night August 5th for the Laurel Highlands Classic and September 3rd for the Labor Day Sweepstakes.

Special events are scattered through the season for the very competitive Semi Late, Pure Stock and Four Cylinder divisions. These include the annual Windmill 100 on Memorial Day weekend. Making a special visit that night will be the Virginia based Steel Block Bandits Series for Limited Late Models, racing for $2000 to win in a 35 lap show. Fans can also look forward to two visits from the popular All American Outlaws as well several pre-race car shows, kid’s bicycle races and kid’s candy throws throughout the season.

The 2011 racing season is set to conclude on Friday September 16th and Saturday September 17th with the Valley Finale Fall Fest. This two day show will feature twin 76 lap features for the Semi Lates and Pure Stocks as well as featuring the Late Models, Limiteds, Four Cylinders, and Crusiers. The last event of the season for Late Model competitors will be the Challenge of Champions, open only to the last ten TV feature winners and the top five in points without a win. This event will be an opportunity for competitors who have supported Thunder Valley all season to race for extra money.

Thunder Valley will continue with its mission to provide a show that is efficiently run, fair to the competitors, and entertaining to the fans. We strive to present a program that is enjoyable to the entire family, which is highly competitive and is over at a reasonable hour. For competitors we offer competitive purses as well as a regular slate of extra distance and extra money specials designed specifically to benefit the local racer.
