Default Dropped deck vs flat deck

I'm about to make a new body for my car. I currently have a dropped deck (about 3" behind the hood). Is there any positive or negative to having a dropped deck vs a flat deck? The only thing I see that needs changing to make a flat deck is raise the sheet metal on the inside and rear of the driver compartment and have a flat mounting bar behind the seat and modify the panel over the gauges.

Speedway Illustrated wind tunnel tested a dirt late model several years back and the dropped deck was the largest area of aero drag that was created by the body. When they removed the drop they said it would have been like adding something like 25hp to the engine.

Thanks Ego. Not sure if this is the same article but it's interesting. What I need now is for some members to post pictures of their flat deck so I can see how to make it above the gauges and brake access panel.
