CARTERSVILLE, GA – The $5,000-to-win Rumble On The Gumbo 75 is up next for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour this Friday and Saturday nights at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS. After three races in Florida, and a race last Saturday in Tennessee, many NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS regulars will welcome racing in their home state.

The two-day show will have Qualifying and Heat Races on Friday night to set the front half of the main event field. Those that failed to qualify for the big show on Friday night will have another opportunity on Saturday night in the B-Main races leading up to Saturday night’s Rumble On The Gumbo 75, Round 5 of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model season.

Dan Breuer of Troutman, NC leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Tour standings with 354 points after turning in two top five finishes and four top ten finishes in four starts. Just 14 points behind in second place is two-time NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN with 340 points. Gentry has one top five and three top tens.

A driver who can’t wait to get to the high banks of Greenville Speedway is Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA. Turner has a streak to maintain at the 3/8-mile gumbo dirt oval in that he has won a NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series race at Greenville Speedway each of the last two seasons, and both victories represent his two career series wins.

Turner is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 314 points and two top ten finishes. Turner will be looking to keep his “Ironman” streak alive by competing in his 112th consecutive event, or every race the series has run since its inception in 2005.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS moved into the tenth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings after last Saturday night’s race at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN in his fourth start of the season. Lee is also the point leader in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings.

Breuer’s teammate Steve Cooke of Mt. Airy, NC is just outside the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model standings, and a good showing at Greenville Speedway could vault him into the top ten. Cooke has also competed in all four series races this season.

Just 12 points separate the top three candidates for the $5,000 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year Award. Frank Wilson of Milton, FL has 202 points, and leads the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Champion Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL by two points.

The third place driver will be looking to gain some big ground on Wilson and Edge for the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year title on his home track. Mark Tice of Avon, MS is third in the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year standings with 190 points, just 12 points behind Wilson and ten points behind Edge.

Mississippi drivers Chase Washington of Houlka, MS, Tootie Arnold of Bude, MS, and Tony Lawson of Laurel, MS have all competed in the first four NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series events this season, and are hoping that racing in their home state will move them up the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS point standings.

Other Mississippi favorites expected for the Rumble On The Gumbo 75 this weekend at Greenville Speedway are two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS, the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS, seven-time Mississippi State Late Model Champion Mike Boland of Cuba, AL, and defending Greenville Speedway NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Track Champion Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS.

Gates open at 4 p.m., the Drivers Meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., and racing is scheduled for 7 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. Greenville Speedway is located on the east side of Greenville, MS, one mile south of U.S. Highway 82 on Raceway Road.
