Talladega Short Track Set to Host Hall of Fame Weekend Events

Eastaboga, Alabama – As the NASCAR crowds and drivers take center stage across the street at “the big track”, many area and regional drivers in the dirt racing world will converge on Talladega Short Track for their NASCAR Hall of Fame Weekend events. On Friday night the 1/3rd mile oval dubbed “The Hornet’s Nest” will open up with a $2000 to win / 40 lap warm-up event for the Super Late Models. Legendary Alabama Gang Member and member of the 2011 NASCAR Hall of Fame Induction Class Bobby Allison will be on hand signing autographs from 6:00 to 7:00 PM and will serve as honorary starter for the evening. “Bobby is a character and it is an honor for us to have him be a part of our Hall of Fame Weekend festivities. He is truly one of the pioneers of auto racing and an ambassador for the sport. We hope that the fans will turn out and show their appreciation for such a great Alabama Legend.” said TST promoter Lynn Phillips.

Saturday night’s action will be highlighted by the 50 lap / $4000 to win Super Late Model feature event. “Most of our weekly racers will be here for this one. And then you have some of the regional guys that will show up. And every once in a while one of those guys that runs over at “the big track” will sneak over here and have some fun with us. This is always an exciting show and you just never know who will show up to race with us.” added Phillips. Coming in to the event two of the favorites would have to be two of Talladega Short Track’s tough weekly racers. Munford, Alabama’s Stacey Holmes and defending Kilpatrick Chevrolet Super Late Model Track Champion Tim Busha of Boaz, Alabama have both shown they know how to get the job done at TST.

Holmes, the 2007 Southern All Stars Racing Series Rookie of the Year, has won two out the three Super Late Model Features this season at Talladega Short Track. Holmes visited TST’s Victory Lane three times in 2010. Holmes heads to this event brimming with confidence. “This year, our stuff has been better than it ever has been before. We lost a little something last year and we have worked and worked and finally found it. So I feel like we will be really good for this weekend. Big Jeff has been on his game with making changes and having the car prepared well and I am running better than ever. It has just got better and better every time we have raced. We have run four races total this year and won three. That’s a pretty good percentage so we want to keep on building on that.” Holmes said.

Busha has been the picture of dominance the last two years at TST having won the Kilpatrick Chevrolet Super Late Model Championship in both 2009 and 2010. In 2011 Busha already has one victory to go along with his 8 last year and a career high 13 in 2009. “We will be loading up tonight to head over to Talladega tomorrow. Talladega is home for us. We have always run pretty good there so I think we will be okay this weekend. It will be a good show though. With guys like Stacey, Terry Smith, Dillon Crim, Ross Martin and Tim Roszell they have some of the best weekly competition around. So it will be interesting when you throw in a Ronnie Johnson, or Will Vaught and guys like that racing with the tough TST regulars. No matter what it will be exciting. It always is.” said Busha.

In addition to the Super Late Models, both nights of the Hall of Fame Weekend event will also feature racing in Crate Late Models, Sportsman, Open Wheel Modifieds, Thunder Cars, Hot Shots and Street Stocks. Friday and Saturday, the pit gates open at 9:00 AM with the grandstand gates opening at 3:00 PM. The drivers meeting is scheduled for 5:45 PM with hot laps at 6:00 and racing scheduled to begin at 7:00 sharp.
