After careful consideration and conversation with FASTRAK member teams and sponsors, the FASTRAK Racing Series has elected to restructure its 2011 Southeast Touring Series. In years past the Southeast Tour has been a focal point for many of our teams and while the program rewarded both performance and loyalty, series officials had been considering ways to improve the already successful format. Therefore, the series has elected to offer the option of 2 drop races for the 2011 touring schedule. Teams will be able to drop their 2 lowest point totals leaving the remaining races to be taken into consideration for the 2011 Southeast Touring Championship.

“Stan and I thought long and hard about this”, stated Director of Operations Jason Atkins. “A championship should always reflect performance, consistency, and loyalty. However, our racers are just like us, they have full time jobs, families, and other obligations away from the race track. We currently have 16 races on the 2011 Southeast Touring schedule. Implementing 2 drop races should provide our teams the flexibility they need to manage their schedules and still support the series. We also have a lot of back to back races scheduled this year. If a team has mechanical failure on a Friday night race, it could possibly have a lasting effect that eliminates them from competition the following night. I would hate to see that happen to anyone. Fuel prices continue to remain a challenge for the entire industry. We spoke to many drivers, especially the top finishers at Modoc, to get their thoughts and opinions. The response we received was amazing as even those teams that attended the first race at Modoc, respected our thoughts and ideas about changing the program for the best interest of everyone involved.”

While this change will now allow teams that did not race at Modoc a chance to pursue a touring championship, those teams that did compete at Modoc will still retain their option for 2 drop races with a successful trip to Modoc already to their credit.

“We appreciate the feedback from our teams and sponsors in regards to this idea”, stated CEO Stan Lester. “Fastrak was built around its member teams and tracks, and we will continue maintain this focus going forward as we have in the past.” There are a lot of exciting things going on in Fastrak and I am pleased to be associated with all of our teams, tracks, sponsors, and regions that make it happen.
