CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 5 of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season will feature 11 races in five states. There will be six races in the West Region and five races in the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Week 5 competition will begin on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS. NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region point leader Cliff Williams of Star, MS will be looking for his third straight win at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park driving the Ware Construction Trak-Star.

Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Week 5 events are scheduled for Centerville Speedway in Centerville, AR, Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Williams will also be looking for his third straight win at Jackson Motor Speedway. Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL is second in the West Region standings, just two points behind Williams, and will be looking for his third win overall of the season and his second straight on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in the Century Dedicated, Inc. Trak-Star.

Johnny Virden of Russellville, AR will be looking to drive the Bill Frye Racing Rocket to his second straight win at Centerville Speedway on Saturday night, and Billy Flannagan Jr. of Tuscumbia, AL will be going for his second in-a-row on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in the Seven Springs Lodge Special.

Grant Box of Monticello, AR will be looking for his second straight and third win of the season on Saturday night at Drew County Speedway driving the Solar Control Window Tinting Special.

Mother Nature has already posted a win at a Week 5 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region event. Malden Speedway in Malden, MO cancelled their April 29 race after ten inches of rain earlier in the week left the Southeastern Missouri track under water. Malden Speedway officials are hopeful they will be able to return to action on May 6.

Action in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region begins this Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL. Saturday night OMG East Region events are set for Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL, New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA, Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Champion Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL will be going for his second straight win at Penton Raceway on Friday night driving the Edge’s Gas Company Special. Edge also leads the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year point standings in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour.

Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL will be looking for his second straight and third win of the season on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway driving the Maher Motorsports GRT. Tod Darda of LaGrange, GA goes for his second straight win on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway in the PW Performance GRT.

Patrick Duggan of Lenoir City, TN tries for two in-a-row on Saturday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway in the Duggan Racing GRT, and the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region Champion Adam Martin of Talladega, AL will be going for his second straight and third win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track driving the Martin Racing Special.

Drivers participating in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events compete for prize money at each event, and each track will pay out a point fund at the end of the season. Drivers are also competing for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Regional point fund that pays $5,000 to the Champion and pays back through the top ten spots in each Region.

A driver’s Regional point total is made up of their best event point total on a weekly basis, plus bonus points earned by perfect attendance at a single track and participating in NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring events. The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series runs through October 2.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical GM Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 150-pound weight break.
