CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 6 of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season saw some changes in the West Region point standings after a post-race technical inspection at the Saturday night event at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS. Jimmy Elkins JR. of Talladega, AL continues to lead the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings.

After Cliff Williams of Star, MS took his apparent seventh win of the season at Jackson Motor Speedway, the GM Performance Crate engine in his Ware Construction Trak-Star was disassembled and inspected by NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Technical Director Tim Sims.

During the inspection, Sims found the camshaft did not meet the GM Performance specifications and Williams was disqualified. Because the camshaft is inside the sealing system of the engine, Williams will receive a one-year suspension and a $1,000 fine for the infraction.

Landon Frith of Terry, MS takes over the point lead in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 286 points. Frith earned 25 bonus points for four weeks of perfect attendance at JMS. Frith hold an 11 point lead over Williams, who with the penalty for the engine infraction is done for the season with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series.

Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS, the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion, picked up his second straight win on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS driving the H.E. Mosley, Inc. Trak-Star. Mosley’s engine was protested and impounded after the win. The engine was ruled legal after Sims inspected the engine on Sunday.

McDuffie is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 266 points, and Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is fourth with 259 points. Randy Boyd of Marion, MS is fifth with 252 points. Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS is sixth with 242 points, and Wiley Williams of Stonewall, MS is seventh with 240 points.

Daniel Bridgeman of Meridian, MS is eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 231 points, while Casey Haney of Meridian, MS and Tim Dees of Meridian, MS are tied for the ninth spot with 230 point apiece.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Week 6 action, Williams won the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region event on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS. Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL drove his Summit Resource Development Trak-Star to his second win of the season on Saturday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS.

Duke Palasini of Leland, MS took his first win of the season on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS driving the Palasini Farms Special. Mark Tice of Avon, MS picked up his first West Region win of the season on Saturday night at Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR driving the Precision Marine Trak-Star. Neil Lee of Flowood, MS in the Hayles Towing GRT was awarded the win at Jackson Motor Speedway after Williams’ disqualification.

The Friday night West Region events at Malden Speedway in Malden, MO, and Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR, as well as the Saturday night race at NEA Speedway in Harrisburg, AR were rained out.

Elkins took his second NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the ADP Special. Elkins extended his NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region point lead over Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL to ten points.

Elkins has 311 points with two wins, and five top five finishes in seven starts, and Gauldin has 301 points with one win, four top fives and seven top ten finishes in seven starts. Mike Combs of Odenville, AL is third with 299 points, and Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL is fourth with 296 points.

David Crabtree of Maryville, TN won both feature races on Saturday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN to pick up his first two wins of the season driving the Smoky Mountain Brewery Special. The pair of victories moved Crabtree up to the fifth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 293 points.

Bobby Giffin of Maryville, TN is sixth with 280 points, and Brian Ownby of Maryville, TN is seventh with 264 points. Crabtree, Giffin, and Ownby will be among the local favorites when the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour visits Smoky Mountain Speedway this Saturday night for Round 6 of the 2011 season with a 50-lap $2,500-to-win event.

Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL took his third win of the season on Saturday night at New Senoia Speedway in Senoia, GA driving the Northeast Alabama Audiology Special. The win now puts Ogletree is tied with Ownby for the seventh spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 264 points.

Robby Moses of Friendsville, TN is ninth with 263 points and Brad Coffey of Maryville, TN rounds out the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 259 points.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Week 6 action, Craig Scott of Newnan, GA drove the Tire Zone GRT to his second straight win on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL. It was also his third OMG East Region win of the season. Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL took his fourth win of the season on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL driving the Maher Motorsports GRT.

The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL and three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR are tied for the point lead with 14 wins apiece this season.

Trak-Star Race Cars had four wins from Williams, McDuffie, Shaw and Tice, while GRT Race Cars had three wins from Lee Scott, and Maher in Week 6 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition. Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV is in the third spot with six wins.

Also competing in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and still looking for their first wins of the season are TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN, Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN, and Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN.
