CARTERSVILLE, GA – The Week 8 schedule of events for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series has a total of nine events with five races in the West Region and four races in the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region, including two NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring events that will award Regional Bonus Points.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action begins on Friday night with a pair of events at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS and Malden Speedway in Malden, MO. Both tracks will be looking to return to competition after being rained out last week.

Malden Speedway is still trying to run its second event of the season after being rained out for six of the past seven weeks. After its Week 2 race, the track was under water for three straight weeks after flooding plagued the area. With 20 weeks left in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season, Malden Speedway drivers still have plenty of time to earn West Region points.

The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion and current point leader Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS will be looking for his third straight West Region win on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS. Other Saturday night West Region events are scheduled for Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR and Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS.

Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL, the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region point leader, has announced his plans to compete with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour this Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL in an effort to grab the 25 Regional Bonus Points.

Each driver that competes in a NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Touring event receives 25 Regional Bonus Points in their home Region that are added to their Top 14 race week totals. Drivers can earn up to 100 Regional Bonus Points during the season, and they earn them two different ways.

In addition to competing in NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Touring events, drivers can also receive 25 Regional Bonus Points for each four weeks of perfect attendance at a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series track.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Champion Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL has had a busy week off and on the track, and the most hectic day for Edge will be Friday night. Edge celebrated his 18th birthday on Monday, and has spent the rest of the week getting ready for three events.

The first event for Edge on Friday will be his high school graduation where he will receive his diploma with honors. After grabbing his sheepskin, Edge will hustle out to nearby Penton Raceway for the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Touring event, the $2,000-to-win Spring Nationals 40, and he hopes to get there in time to qualify.

On Saturday night, Edge will move to New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA for the second NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Touring event of the weekend, the $2,500-to-win Spring Nationals “Slick” 50. The event will pay tribute to Georgia Racing Hall of Fame inductee Leon “Slick” Sells, who will be on hand to meet and greet the fans and sign autographs. Edge took the win at NSR last week.

Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region events are also scheduled for Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Drivers participating in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events compete for prize money at each event, and each track will pay out a point fund at the end of the season. Drivers are also competing for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Regional point fund that pays $5,000 to the Champion and pays back through the top ten spots in each Region.

A driver’s Regional point total is made up of their best event point total on a weekly basis, plus bonus points earned by perfect attendance at a single track and participating in NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring events. The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series runs through October 2.
