    Default spring buckets

i see the coil cars in my class all running the big round buckets on the rear. I am wondering if this is a necessity. 15 years ago when i was helping on a 3 link modified we didnt use the buckets we just used a bolt tied into the chassis. does the extra weight of a stock car justlfy the use of a spring bucket?

Most of the ones I see are like you are talking about on the modifed I see no reason for spring buckets my sons car has buckets but we bought it and I reworked a lot of it the new car we are building will not have them.

We dont use the buckets either, just have a bar that runs across frame and a nut welded on it for the jack bolt. Support braces for the bar and gussetts for the nuts, has worked good.
