John Garvin Jr. Enters Appalachian Mtn. Speedweek, Finishes Strong at Home

Sarver, PA (June 14, 2011)
2010 O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series Rookie of the Year John Garvin Jr. and Copperhead Racing made their way east this past week as they entered six of the seven Appalachian Mountain Speedweek Series events held through Saturday, June 4 to Friday, June 10.

Garvin, also known as ‘Copperhead’, week got off to a rough start as he was unable to transfer to the main event on the series opening night at Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD. John quickly redeemed himself the following night at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA. Garvin timed in 29th fastest out of the 50 car field but was able to win his heat race which put him in the fifth starting spot for the $5,000 to-win, 50 lap main event. Garvin held his own as the race got underway and ran in the top-six behind the likes of 2009 and 2010 World of Outlaws Late Model Series Champion Josh Richards, Jeremy Miller, and Outlaws regulars Rick Eckert and Austin Hubbard. Unfortunately, after running up front throughout the first half of the race, a shock let loose on John’s Garvin Scrap Metal, Graff Trucking, Sarver Landscape and Garden Supply, JNJ Motorsports Media sponsored Rocket Chassis relegating him to a 20th place finish after a promising start.

After failing to qualify for the next four events with the Appalachian Mtn. Speedweek, Garvin returned home before the finale at Bedford Speedway to compete at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA on Friday, June 10. A trip to Lernerville was just what the team needed as John finished the night in the fifth spot moving him to fourth in the season point standings at ‘The Action Track’. On Saturday, June 11 the team made their way to Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway for the UFO sanctioned ‘PENNational’ that featured two, $2,000 to-win, 28 lap events. A flat tire in the first feature event put John into the wall and left him with a 24th place finish but a determined Garvin captured a solid ninth place finish in the second feature event.

John Garvin Jr. and his Copperhead Racing team will be in action this Friday, June 17 at Lernerville Speedway for their $1,500 regular show which happens to be their Mid-Season Championship. The following week, Garvin will take part in the 5th Annual Firecracker 100 presented by Gotta Race on Thursday, June 23, Friday, June 24, and Saturday, June 25. Two full $6,000 to-win World of Outlaws Late Model Series shows will take place on Thursday and Friday while the $30,000 to-win, 100 lap main event will be held on Saturday.
