Jon Henry to Join “Hell Tour” This Week

ADA, OH (6/20/11) – Jon Henry, the current Sunoco American Late Model Series points leader, will be joining the UMP Summer Nationals for the next three events beginning with Tuesday night’s race at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, IL.

Jon Henry and his team will make the trek west today to embark upon six straight nights of racing, beginning with the UMP Summer Nationals. Known as the “Hell Tour”, the Summer Nationals covers 25 races and stretches out over 4,500 miles in less than a month. Henry will join the tour this week with each of the three Summer Nationals races paying $5,000 to win.

“We’re looking forward to it,” Henry said. “Any time you have the opportunity to visit new tracks and get some seat time, it can only improve you as a driver.”

On Friday, Henry will head to Hartford, MI to compete in a Sunoco ALMS event, where the former champion will look to strengthen his points lead. On Saturday, the “Steel Driver” will visit one of his home tracks, Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, OH, for the $4,700-to-win Barney Oldfield Memorial. And on Sunday, Henry will hit nearby Millstream Speedway in Findlay, OH, for the $4,000-to-win All-Star Late Model event.

This past weekend, Henry competed in two Sunoco ALMS sanctioned events. Friday night at Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg, OH, a broken drive shaft forced him to start dead last (17th) in the A-Main, where Henry rallied to a solid 6th place finish. In Saturday Sunoco ALMS race at Oakshade Raceway, Henry led 29 of the race’s 30 laps, before a late-race caution bunched the field together and allowed Rusty Schlenk to slip by for the win with Henry finishing 2nd.
