CARTERSVILLE, GA – There are 13 events in five states on the schedule for Week 13 of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season. Four events are scheduled in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region, and a full slate of nine events will take place in the West Region.

The NeSmith Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Week 13 action begins on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL where drivers will have an opportunity to tune up for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour $2,500-to-win “Stars and Stripes 50” that will take place at Penton Raceway on Friday night, July 2.

Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Week 13 events are scheduled for Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL, New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

A good mix of drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region represent several tracks in the point standings.

Five drivers, including the top three in the OMG East Region point standings represent Talladega Short Track. Talladega, AL drivers Jimmy Elkins Jr., Adam Gauldin, and Brian Ponder are first through third respectively. Mike Combs of Odenville, AL is seventh and Ken Pate of Pell City, AL is in the tenth spot.

New Senoia Raceway has three drivers in the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region point standings with Doug Ludwig of Grantville, GA in fourth, Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL in the fifth spot, and Trey White of Jenkinsburg, GA is ninth. Flomaton Speedway has two drivers in the OMG East Region top ten with Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL in sixth and Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL in the eighth spot.

A busy Week 13 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region will begin with three events on Friday night. Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR, Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS, and Malden Speedway in Malden, MO will all be in action on Friday night with NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region competition.

There will be six West Region events on the schedule for Saturday night. Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS will present a $1,000-to-win race on Saturday night for NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region competitors.

Other Saturday night West Region events will be held at Centerville Speedway in Centerville, AR, Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS, Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Drivers representing several NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region tracks make up the top ten of the point standings going into Week 13 competition. Whynot Motorsports Park has five of the top ten West Region drivers, including the top two, 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS and Randy Boyd of Marion, MS respectively.

Other Whynot Motorsports Park drivers in the top ten of the West Region point standings are Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL in fourth, Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS in sixth, and Tim Dees of Meridian, MS in seventh. Greenville Speedway has two drivers in the top ten with Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS tied with Boyd for the second spot, and Lamar Furr of Hollandale, MS in ninth.

Landon Frith of Terry, MS representing Hattiesburg Motorsports Park and Jackson Motor Speedway is fifth in the West Region point standings and another HMP/JMS regular; Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is tenth. Tony Lawson of Laurel, MS is the “West Region Traveler,” having visited several West Region tracks in three states to hold down the eighth spot.

Drivers participating in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events compete for prize money at each event, and each track will pay out a point fund at the end of the season. Drivers are also competing for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Regional point fund that pays $5,000 to the Champion and pays back through the top ten spots in each Region.

A driver’s Regional point total is made up of their best event point total on a weekly basis, plus bonus points earned by perfect attendance at a single track and participating in NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring events. The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series runs through October 2.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical GM Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 150-pound weight break.
