    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jared Miley wins Earl Hill ShootOut for UFo Race Championship!

Middlebourne, WV (July 2, 2011) Jared Miley from South Park, PA was the winner of the 23rd Annual “Earl Hill ShootOut” at the Tyler County Speedway on Saturday night. Miley earned $4,000 for his winning drive in the 51-lap event.

A field of 33 entries were on hand for the event, divided into four qualifying heats. Butch McGill was the winner of Heat 1 from fourth starting position. Steve Wilmoth took the win in Heat 2 from second starting spot. UFo Race Championship point leader Devin Friese won Heat 3, also from the second starting berth. Second place was the hot starting spot, as Paul Wilmoth also started there in winning Heat 4. Two B-Mains rounded out the qualifying, with wins going to Jacob Hawkins and Ricky Williams. Hawkins raced from eighth starting spot to the lead in two laps in his victory.

In the redraw for the top 12 starting positions, first heat winner Butch McGill drew for all drivers. After picking ninth for his starting position, the second starting spot went to second in order Steve Wilmoth. The pole position fell well down in the drawing order, going to the eleventh driver to receive his position, Corey Conley.

The 51-lap Earl Hill ShootOut started with Steve Wilmoth taking the early lead over Corey Conley, Robbie Scott, Jared Miley, and Danny Mitchell. Paul Wilmoth Jr. took fifth from Mitchell on lap 2, before the event’s first caution period on lap 3 for Keith Barbara who stopped with a flat tire, the first of a rash of tire problems throughout the event. On the double file restart, Steve Wilmoth continued to lead when racing resumed over Scott, Conley, and Miley, as those three dueled three wide for a short time. Caution again showed on lap 5 for a Mike Benedum spin, and again on lap 6 when Wilmoth, Jr. had a tire problem.

Steve Wilmoth chose the outside for the restart, and regained control at the green over Scott, Miley, Conley, and Mitchell. Scott came up to challenge on the inside, running several laps side by side with the leader. Wilmoth cleared Scott on lap 10, but they went side by side again on the next lap. On lap 12, Scott got a great run on the inside through turn two and nosed ahead down the backstretch. Poised to take the lead, Scott was disappointed to see the yellow flag, as things would turn crazy at this point.

Though Wilmoth got a good break to get the lead back, it quickly soured as he pitted with a flat tire. That meant that Scott would wind up in the lead regardless. As the new leader, Scott never got to taste a green flag lap in the lead as he slowed to bring out the next caution as the next lap was scored. Miley would be the new leader with 13 complete over Conley, Butch McGill, Steve Weigle, and Jared Hawkins.

Miley took off in the lead once racing resumed over Conley, Hawkins, McGill, and Weigle. Mitchell regained fifth on lap 16, as fifth was being hotly contested. That forced the next yellow flag period on lap 21 when some contact in the battle for fifth knocked Mitchell from the race, with Keith Barbara also caught up in the incident. Miley again showed the way when racing resumed over Conley. McGill nosed Hawkins for third on lap 23, but Hawkins regained it the next time by. Devin Friese took fifth from Weigle on lap 26, with the next yellow coming at lap 29 for D.J. Cline.

Miley chose high and again regained command over Conley, Hawkins, McGill, and Friese. The top five ran consistently until lap 42 for a Greg Baumberger flat tire, which would turn out to be the final caution period of the event.

When racing resumed, Conley made one last charge at getting the lead from Miley. He got within a car length on lap 45, but that was as close as he would get. Miley pulled away over the closing laps as he went on to pick up the victory from third starting spot. Conley was second from the pole. Jared Hawkins advanced from tenth starting spot to get third place. Butch McGill came from ninth to finish fourth. Devin Friese held on to the UFo point lead with his run from 11th to fifth. Steve Weigle, early leader Steve Wilmoth, Mike benedum, Donnie Dotson, and Quinton Wyandt in his 525 crate engine entry rounded out the top ten.

Devin Friese continues to lead the UFo Race Championship point standings, with a 13 point lead over Jared Miley. Keith Barbara is third, 14 points behind Miley. Defending champion Chad McClellan is fourth in the standings. Quintin Wyandt is fifth over Jared Hawkins, Danny Mitchell, Matt Dobnak, Butch McGill, and Robbie Scott.

Thanks. It's a fun hobby. Wish I could get paid to do it. I almost alway watch from the pits at Tyler County, just wish I could make more than one a year.
