Shadyhill Speedway held their annual "Firecracker 50" for UMP Modifieds, paying $3,000 to the winner. 45 UMP Modifieds signed in, with Roger Cavness besting them all in time trials with a lap of 16.576. Six heats were ran with wins going to Brad DeYoung, Nick Allen, McKay Wenger, Bub Patrick, Russ Gabbert, and Jacob Poel. Two consolation races were run, and won by Derek Bunning and John Demoss

DeYoung and Allen made up the front row for the 50 lap main event with DeYoung leading lap one ahead of Allen and McKay Wenger. Bub Patrick settled into the fourth spot with Jake Poel claiming fifth on lap two. Poel moved to the top side and got around Patrick for the fourth spot on lap three and began to set his sights on Wenger for third. Up front, DeYoung held a four car length lead over Allen as they completed lap six. Behind them, Poel snagged the third spot from Wenger, and began to track down Allen in second. Ed Shamhart moved into the top five as Allen spun while running second on lap seven. Poel was deemed to have taken Allen out in turn two and was black flagged. Allen would return to his second position, as the field took the green for the restart. Shamhart moved around Allen for second on lap eight bringing Patrick with him to battle for third with Allen. Patrick and Wenger battled for the fourth spot on lap 12, with Wenger taking the spot. Up front, DeYoung held a five car length lead over Shamhart as they completed lap 15. Russ Gabbert made his debut in the top five on lap 18, as he moved around Patrick on the highside coming out of turn four. The caution flew for the second time on lap 19, as Roger Cavness dropped a driveshaft. DeYoung led the field to the green with Allen battling Shamhart for the second spot on lap 20. Shamhart was able to hold him off as they came across the line. Shamhart took the lead away from DeYoung on lap 24, and began to pull away. At the halfway mark it was Shamhart, DeYoung, Wenger, Allen, and Gabbert completing the top five. The top two of Shamhart and DeYoung began to pull away from Wenger who was about a half straightaway behind them in third. John Demoss was the car on the move, by lap 34, he sat seventh after starting 20th. With 13 laps to go, Shamhart held a full straight lead over DeYoung, who himself held a half straight lead over Wenger in third. Demoss moved into the fifth spot, getting around Gabbert on lap 39. Demoss then moved around Allen for the fourth spot on lap 41. Demoss picked off Wenger for third on lap 44 and then around DeYoung for second with five to go. As the laps clicked down, Shamhart held a full straight lead over Demoss with just three laps to go. Shamhart was able to click off the remaining two laps with ease to take the win over Demoss, DeYoung, Wenger, and Gabbert

    Exclamation

Did anybody else think Jake Poel getting penalized for spinning Allen was really questionable? I thought he got screwed on that deal.

Mr Nunn, nice story on the "Firecracker 50" But you forgot to mention how after Allen spun BY HIMSELF and Poel got into him, that Nick Allen stopped on the track, and a Track Official pulled all the sheetmetal away from the tire. thank you for putting these results up for everyone.

I do not know either of these guys, but POEL GOT SCREWED! This all just confirmed the horror story's that I have heard about "The Hill"
