$5,000-to-win Super Late Model ‘Summer Sizzler Shootout 50’ scheduled Saturday, July 9 at Volunteer Speedway
BULLS GAP, Tenn. — With every racing program in 2011 at Volunteer Speedway featuring all special event money-shows for Super Late Models, next up on Saturday, July 9 is the $5,000-to-win “Summer Sizzler Shootout 50.” Besides the Super Late Models, also in action will be the Fastrak Racing Series-sanctioned Crate Late Model, “Gunslingers of Kingsport” Hobby Stock and Road Warrior divisions.
Look for East Tennessee dirt-slingers such as five-time Volunteer Speedway Super Late Model champion Vic Hill of Morristown, along with two-time champions Kerry Jones of Bristol and Knoxville’s Mark Douglas, plus Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Maryville’s Tommy Kerr, Mark Vineyard of Powell, Sevierville’s Chad Ogle, Greeneville racers John Tweed and Brett Miller, and others to be present battling for the $5,000 winner’s purse.
Two-time defending Crate Late Model track champion Dale Ball of Johnson City holds a slim four-point lead over Jonesborough’s Jerry Broyles in the chase for the 2011 title, with Ricky Moore of Mosheim third in the standings, followed by Greeneville’s Todd Brooks and Forrest Trent of Morristown.
Defending “Gunslingers of Kingsport” Hobby Stock track champion Jamie Whitt of Wise, Va., leads former two-time divisional champion Dustin Shaver of Morristown by 18 points, with Whitesburg’s Dale Reed, Shannon Davidson of Rogersville, and Marshall, N.C.’s Dennis Metcalf rounding out top-five in points.
Jesse Wilder of Bulls Gap, with two feature wins to his credit, leads Road Warrior points over Mars Hill, N.C.’s Kyle Hunter, Brian Ellis of Erwin, and Newport racers Robert Barndt and Billy Bernard.
Adult grandstand admission on Saturday, July 9 is $15, youth (ages 11-15) $10, with 10-and-under admitted free in the grandstands. Pit passes and backside tier-parking $30, regardless of age.
Both the grandstand and pit gates will open at 5 p.m.
The drivers’ meeting will be held at 7:15 p.m. in the back pits. Hotlaps will get started at 8 p.m. (once the sun begins to set over the track), to be followed by qualifying and then racing action beginning around 9 p.m.
Tell your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers all about racing at Volunteer Speedway. You can’t beat the excitement of an action-packed night of racing at “The Gap!”

Ivedent Lloyd Jr. from Ocala, Fla., has indicated he'll be racing at Volunteer Speedway on Saturday, July 9.

Looks like it will be a very WEAK field of cars for a 5k race.
-
Volunteer Speedway
There is alwys a weak field of cars at Bulls Gap,because the track ower is a joke and he tries to make it about him,and not the action.
-
-
has went from one of best dirt tracks to worst. worse ever owners
-
In Ky for Cup race been here since wed just got call only 12 cars at the gap, told you that place was a joke.Good job Joe everyone thinks you SUCK.
-
Correction only 10 Supers and 11 Crates. People need to quit going and hope he sells the track to someone who CARES about the drivers and the fans.
-
stopped going to the gap around 3 years ago! 10 cars is just what that place deserves, it is a dust bowl & gets slicked over before hot laps are even done. I don't know if that track has ever seen the dirt turned over, watering the track is pointless!
