    Default neon set up help?

    IMCA rules apply...

Looking for a good starting point for suspension setup. I am brand new at dirt circle track and would like to start right.

Gen 1 Dodge Neon - SOHC 5 spd

the course is 1/2 mile medium bank dirt / clay oval.

With some luck I will make my debut yet this season but have to finish the car set up 1st.

    Default SRT tranny

Good thought... All the SRT trannys I have seen price out about $1500 bucks which is exactly the claim for sport compacts in IMCA.

How about a PT cruiser? or are those the same 5spd as the basic 1st gen neon?

There is a lot more involved than just swapping the trans. The T-850 trans (SRT) has a hydraulic clutch assembly. So when buying the trans you will need the peddle assembly also. Don't forget the brakes are also on this assembly and I believe it is different from the 1st gen also as far as the length and throw. Seems like a lot of work for a heavier trans with posi.

if i was him i wouldnt even do anything about the tranny, i would change the tire size which in turn changes the ratio of the gear, and you really only have to use 1st and 2nd
so it would be just a waste of time and money to change tranny. jmo

thats some redneck bull$hit cuz thers allot of neon gear ratios and ud never use 2nd gear ona 1/2 mile or ud need 235.85.16 truck tirs cuz in 2nd hed be cranking 10k with even 14's yall need dohc trans 3,94 diff and 13" tirs and she ll be perfect r's and and thats' what the srt4 ratio is and then yall got posi too so u can sit on the porch or run w the big dogs.

    Default sooo....

It would appear you can run a dohc tranny get the same gears as a t850 but without the posi. Of course they make a posi unit for the t350 which then would essentially be the same thing as a t850 only without the clutch swap hassles ; right?

it is a 1/2 mile and honestly i would think you'd spend the entire time in 3rd gear but not having run the car yet i cannot confirm that.

    this is a fast track...

for the extra cash does posi really help that much. I honestly think it would be illegal as besides the SRY none came with posi and this is not an srt - might be a little obvious. Our tech guys are sharp and neons are common enough im sure they've seen most everything tried - lol...

You Picked the Tranny perfect but For tires you guys on here need to learn to Measure the tires around then theres NO CONFUSION! if its a 205/50/14 or a 195/65/15 IT DONT MATTER!

You wanna start with a tire that measures 72" around and Adjust accordingly it depends on the track grip, where your running in the corners, slick, tackey, Whatever!

    tall 13" medium 14" or a Wider 15"

ur a fu ckin retard. 205/60/13 is 70" around and also liter than 14 and 15" wheels/tiers

it dont mater if u got 13, 14 or 15" a 205 tier is the same and 60 is % of 205 so a 205.60.13 has the same hite from the rim to the thread and if you mesure around the tier a 13" 205/60 will be like 70" a 205/60/14 will be like 73" around and a 205.60.15 will be like 76" aroud

some people think because the tire size say p205/75/15 is the same as a p205/75/14 and in fact there not lets brake this down on how a tire is measured

    p205-width of tread in mm
75- height of sidewall by % of tread width

    now lets do some math

    14 inch wheel = 2 * 3.14 * 7 = 43.96 circumference

    15 inch wheel = 2 * 3.14 * 7.5 = 47.1 circumference

205 is close to 8 inch so we will use 8

    75 / 100 * 8 = 6 the height of the sidewall in inch

now lets make it a circumference of a tire

    6 * 2 + 14 = 26 / 2 = 13
    2 x 3.14 x 13 = 81.64
    81.64 is the circumference of a tire for a 14 " wheel

    6 * 2 + 15 = 27 / 2 = 13.5
    2 x 3.14 x 13.5 = 87.48
    87.45 is the circumference of a tire for a 15 " wheel

its a big difference when its roughly 100 rpm difference per inch of tire
    looking at almost 600 rpm difference between a 205/75 14 and a 205/75 15

just some food for thought when it comes to tires

Hello so I'm running a dodge neon 1997 dohc at upper Iowa speedway on dirt. And needing some help with being faster in the corners. I run third gear with 14" tires. I have good camber but not fast enough on the starts and in the corners.
