    Bluegrass Speedway Presents 13th Annual STARS MDRL Bluegrass 50 on August 6

    Bardstown, KY-July 31, 2011- Bluegrass Speedway track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will kick off the month of August in a big way with the 13th Annual Bluegrass 50 for Super Late Models. The event will be sanctioned by the first year STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League series and will pay $5,000 to win the 50 lap event at the ½ mile high-banked Nelson County clay oval, along with weekly racing series competition for the Country 100.9 MIKE FM UMP Modifieds and Clayton Homes of Stanford UMP Sportsman, while the UMP Street Stocks are off.

    Of note, race teams and race fans that were in attendance at the July 30 event that was rained out can use their general admission tickets and pit passes as a raincheck for this event. All patrons will have to do is pay the difference in price the August 6 event.

    The racing program on Saturday August 6 will feature the STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League Super Late Models in their first ever Bluegrass Speedway appearance in a full program of practice, group time trials, heats, B-Mains, and the 50 lap, $5,000 to win 13th Annual Bluegrass 50 A-Main. Also in competition on the August 6 race program will be the Country 100.9 MIKE FM UMP Modifieds racing for $500 to win and the Clayton Homes of Stanford UMP Sportsman racing for $200 to win, while the UMP Street Stocks have the night off. For the August 6 event, the Super Late Models and UMP Sportsman will time trial, while the UMP Modifieds will draw for heat race starting positions.

    Activities at Bluegrass Speedway for the August 6 event will see the pit area open at 4:00 p.m., while the general admission area will open at 5:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m., with practice set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Time trials will get underway at 7:00 p.m., with racing set for the green flag at or before 8:00 p.m. Ticket prices for the August 6 event in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 6 to 12, and children ages 5 and under free. A pit pass will be $35.

    The 13th Annual Bluegrass 50 sanctioned by the STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League will feature the following A-Main payoff: 1st- $5,000, 2nd- $2,500, 3rd- $1,200, 4th- $950, 5th- $800, 6th- $700, 7th- $600, 8th- $500, 9th- $475, 10th- $450, 11th- $425, 12th- $400, 13th- $390, 14th- $380, 15th through 22nd- $375 to start. All competitors not starting the A-Main will receive $50 tow money. Tire rules for this STARS MDRL event are as follows: Front- Open; Rear- Hoosier 1600, LM40 and American Racer MD56. All rear tires must punch 60 prior to competition.

    The Bluegrass 50 first appeared on the Bluegrass Speedway schedule back in 1995 and John Gill of Mitchell, IN would take the victory in the inaugural event, but the event would not be held from 1996-1999. In 2000, the race returned to the schedule and Kevin Claycomb of Vincennes, IN would score the race victory, while Darrell Lanigan of Union, KY would start a roll in the event that would see him rip off three straight Bluegrass 50 victories in 2001, 2002, and 2003. Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY would score a win in the race in 2004, while John Gill would become the second repeat winner of the race by winning in 2005. Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN would put his name on the winner’s check in 2006, while Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would take the victory in 2007. Jason Keltner of Campbellsville, KY would claim the win in the 2008 Bluegrass 50 event that was tape-delayed and shown on the Outdoor Channel. Victor Lee of Danville, KY would record the event victory in 2009, while Mike Marlar would become the third repeat winner of the race by winning the 2010 version of the Bluegrass 50 and is the defending race winner.

    Bluegrass Speedway was rained out on July 30 and its last completed race program was on July 2 and feature event winners included Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN in 44 Auto Mart Super Late Models, Derek Groomer of Bloomington, IN in Country 100.9 MIKE FM UMP Modifieds, and Mark Filiatreau of Cox’s Creek, KY in UMP Street Stocks. The Clayton Homes of Stanford UMP Sportsman were not in action at that event.

    Current track championship point leaders are Tim Rivers of Salem, IN in 44 Auto Mart Super Late Models, Benji Lee of Loretto, KY in Country 100.9 MIKE FM UMP Modifieds, Robbie Settles of New Hope, KY in Clayton Homes of Stanford UMP Sportsman, and Scott Beeler of Louisville, KY in UMP Street Stocks.

    Bluegrass Speedway is located at 2221 New Haven Road at the intersection of Kentucky Highway 31-E and exit 21 of the Martha Layne Collins (Bluegrass) Parkway. David and Anita Ferrell are the track promoters and present dirt track sports entertainment on Saturday evenings from mid-April through September.
