Mike Marlar Scores Top 5 at Florence; Cleveland This Saturday

Winfield, Tennessee (08/16/11) – Mike Marlar turned a last second opportunity to drive the #16 Billy Ward Motorsports Rocket into a great outing over the weekend in the 29th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 as he raced his way to a fifth place finish in the $50,000-to-win, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) event.

On Friday night with 74 Super Late Models entered, Mike qualified fifth fastest in his group to earn the second starting spot for his heat race on Saturday night. Saturday night would see a lengthy rain delay to start the evening, but after action was finally able to get started, Marlar would race his way to the heat race win. On the heels of winning his heat, Marlar started fifth on the grid for the 100. During the course of the feature he would race his way to as high as the third position. However as the race progressed he began battling issues with the throttle peddle sticking, which caused him to slide backwards a few spots before ultimately recording a strong fifth place finish behind race winner, Jimmy Owens, Scott Bloomquist, Brad Neat, and Ray Cook.

After bad luck the past several weeks this was just what Marlar was needing to get his season pointed back in the right direction. The entire event was also taped by the SPEED TV cameras for airing on September 4th at 11am cst. Full results are available at www.LucasDirt.com .

This Saturday, August 20th Mike will make the trip to Cleveland Speedway (Cleveland, Tennessee) for the 21st Annual Jean Johnson Memorial at the 1/3 mile oval. The $5,000-to-win event is sanctioned by the Southern All Stars Super Late Models. For more information, please visit www.SouthernAllStarsRacingSeries.com.
