Mark Dowdy Racing’s Week-End Recap from August 13

Waterloo, Ala. (08/15/2011)- Mark Dowdy Racing competed at Thunderhill Raceway this past Saturday Aug. 13th finishing outside the top-10 amongst some stiff competitors.

Dowdy would set a qualifying time of 13.750 seconds around the high banks of Thunderhill Raceway and a 12th place starting position in the Pittman Dutton and Hellums Law Firm, Tolbert Performance Engine, D&R Hardware Warrior Chassis. Track conditions were dry and slick, the final hot lap session before the feature event would help the team set up the final adjustments to the Warrior chassis.

When the field of 21 limited late models took to the track for its feature, Dowdy would line up in the 12th position. As the green flag fell, Dowdy was ready to make a march toward the front but when the green waved a car ahead of Dowdy didn’t fire with the rest of the field, causing the cars behind it, to get tangled up and Dowdy was involved in a front stretch pile up amongst several other cars. A red flag was waved on the speedway to clean up the damage and remove the damaged cars. Dowdy was able to continue. Restarting in the 11th position with zero laps in the books, Dowdy set his sights on making his way through the field stepping out on the high side of the track making a run on the 10th place car. One lap would go by before the second caution of the night would fall for the spun car of second place running #F26 Scott Cook. Dowdy re-started in the 10th position and He made a run on the 9th place car getting by him on the back stretch, another caution would wave on the very next lap for the #14 of Jeremy Jones. Dowdy re-started in the 9th position and was in position to get the eighth spot but running the high line of the track got the Warrior chassis out of shape and let two contenders get by Dowdy to drop him down to 11th. After a short 5 lap run, the fourth and final caution would wave for the #C66 of Donald Johns slowing on the track. The feature time limit had been reached and it set up a green, white checkered finish. On the final restart in the 11th position, Dowdy settled in and rode out the storm of the night to bring home an 11th place finish.
