    Default for Race DAD

thanks for responding to my previous post.

"dog track" by changing the wheel base, longer on the right side.
will it help the car turn left if?
will it hurt in the straight?
thinking about 1/4 inch more distance on the right then the left..

    please provide your thoughts.

    Thanks

I'm not racedad but.....I have run the rear out of square on a camaro leaf car. I had to run the same size street tires all around. It will dogtrack down the straights, but does help to turn.

dog tracking the car isn't the best way to make the car turn left. if you cant get the car to turn decent, moving the axle out of square is trying to put a crutch on the real problem.

There was a NASCAR race earlier this year where someone did it and was BAD fast compaired to the feild then the next week there was a rule limiting it. There are better ways to get the car to turn but depending on the rules it can work and be fast even at the top levels of the sport.
Not to mention that about every 4 link car on an oval does it every weeekend!

dog tracking the car vs a 4link is 2 TOTALLY different things. on our outlaw super latemodel (dirt) the rear axle only steers when cornering. on the straights it'd dead square. this is done with shorter lower left rear trailing arm. as the car rolls to the right, the left side of the axle goes forward. when the car is level rear axle is dead straight and square in the car.

If you car is on the bars it is NOT dead square it is tracking with the RR hung out the only time the cars rear is square is setting in the shop on the scales and then some chassis are not square. It is not done by the length of the bars but the angles that the bars are set at in the car. IF the car is running a lift arm OR pull bar the forces of the engine torque are causing the car to raise and the bars to steer the rearend. All you have to do is be at the end of the straight and you can see there is not a single car on the straight that is not crab walking down the track unless he is off of the gas and rolling into the pit or rolling the track in. Even swing arm cars do it to an extent.

any car i have worked on or raced always start with .5" lead.

my mod 4 goes from .5" - 3.5-4" under load one of the best turning cars at my track.

Idk, my left trailing arm is 2" shorter than the right and rear is square in the car in the shop and moves forward 3" in the corner.

There are different ways and probably better ways to make the car turn. But if moving the rear out of square helps it turn and it's faster, who cares if it's a crutch.

seems yall is talking about 2 diff things like having suspension turn rear vs making the axle crooked the whole time you dont want the axle (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)ed, you want the axle to move as the chassis moves when you turn. the harder you turn the more the axle turns. you don't want the car dog tracking this kind of setup doesn't make the car faster turing like suspension thats making the axle turn.

NASCAR did it by turning the rear, It was even crab walking down pit road. Making the rear out of square with the front has the same results no matter how you do it. In a 4 link you just increase it thru the corner but it is always turned while on the throttle.

nascar has been doing this for a couple of years. the main reason is to get more of the rear spoiler into the air and to use the right side of the car like a sideboard. very obvious at pocono and some other tracks but you don't see it at daytona. it increases drag which helps on some tracks but is not wanted on others. try it on your car and see if it helps.
