Post BOYD'S SPPEDWAY RESULTS 8-26-2011....... the offical results....WOW! WHAT A RACE!

(Ringgold, Ga) With the August heat upon us everyone one would wait and see if the racing on the 1/3 mile clay oval of Boyd’s Speedway would be as “HOT”. Well when the final checkered flag had fallen the crowd left with a clear answer. The racing just can’t get much better than that!

The race track was prepared and the night’s first qualifying heats were called upon to compete. In B-Hobby a pair of Brooks would take front row starting positions for the nights 15 lap $170 to win Feature as Dallas Brooks won the first of two heats and Michael Brooks took the second. In Crate Late Model Craig Burrows and Jeff Smith would win their respective heats. In A-Hobby a pair of black #3’s would take front row starting positions as Len “Gator Fan” McNeese driving the black #3 would take Heat #1 and Gary Johnson driving a similar black #J3 would take the checkered flag in Heat #2. In the Steel-Headed Late Model the legendary Late Model driver Skip Arp driving the T22 of Mike Tinker took Heat Race #1 over Jamie Perry and Paul Tims. In Heat #2 another Late Model regular Kevin Gibson would hold off Stephanie Powell and Andy Miller. In the final Heats of the night FWD Heat #1 saw Thomas Gilbert take the win and in Heat #2 Derrick Forgey held on to win over Hailey Cresswell.

Everything was set for the first of the nights Feature Events as the B-Hobby division rolled their heavy machines to the front stretch. With a pair of Brooks bringing them to the green flag, Michael Brooks would take the early lead over current Points leader Dallas Brooks. Dallas Brooks would be shooting for his 13 Feature Win of the year, but on this night the unlucky #13 would have to wait for another night. Michael took the command and lead flag to flag as Dallas Brooks began to fade. Finishing behind Brooks was #87 Corey Sanders, #2 Mike Chapman, #45 Dallas Brooks and T39 Tim Totherow.

The Crate Late Models were up next, this division has had some of the closest and finest racing anywhere the entire season and this night would be no different. Craig Burrows and Jeff Smith would bring the field to the green and quickly Smith would take the early control. With current Points Leader Jason Welshan starting from the 8th starting position all were hoping to make up a few points on his current lead. Racing heated up with Smith leading Burrows until a lap 12 caution slowed the field as Corey Underdown slowed in turn 4. Once back under green the field had tightened up and now Soddy Daisy’s Rick Hixson piloting #129 (a spare racer of Jason Welshan) was now up to third. On the next lap Hixson would work by Burrows to take over the second place running position. The race would finish without another caution seeing a last lap pass for third as Welshan took the position away from Burrows. Rounding out the top five was Soddy Daisy’s Jerry Coffman and Ooltewah’s Andy Picklesimer.

The A-Hobby racers brought their machines to the front stretch for the waiting fans to see as the lined up for their 15 lap $250 to win Feature Event. With teammates Len “Gator Fan “McNeese and Gary Johnson starting on the front row the competition had their work cut out if they were going to unseat either of them. An early caution on lap #2 saw the #99 of Scott Gravitt tangle with the #55 of Michael Lilly in turn 4. Johnson would hold the lead until another lap 4 caution for Brandon Stanfield’s spin in turn 4 ending his night. Once back under green Johnson continued to hold the lead over the field. The yellow 1st car driven by Steve Tate was now up to second with McNeese back to third. The night’s last caution came on lap 11 for the car driven by Gene Hulgan Jr. Gary Johnson would go on to take his first Boyd’s Speedway Victory of the year holding off Steve Tate, Len “Gator Fan” McNeese, Lynn Gibson and Jody Hixson.

Now it was time to bring the Steel-Headed Late Models to the racing surface for their 25 lap $1000 to win Feature Event and what an event it was. The fans were treated to one of the best races in any division anywhere on this night. As a pair of experienced Super Late Model regular’s competing in the Steel-Headed Late Models brought the field to the green. Skip Arp took the early lead on lap one over Kevin Gibson. Arp was piloting the #T22 Grt, Advance Check Cash Advance sponsored car owned by Mike Tinker. A lap 3 caution slowed the field with debris in turn #4. Once back under green the fans were treated to a show like no other as Arp and Gibson battled the remaining 22 laps side by side. With Arp working the upper groove of the well prepared racing surface and Gibson using the lower groove. As those two battled for the lead a good race for third and fourth between Paul Tims and the legendary “Chattanooga Flash” Ronnie Johnson put on a show of their own that couldn’t be over looked. Each lap clicked off not knowing who would lead the next. As the pair of good competitors and friend fought lap after lap the fans were brought to the edge of their seats. Arp would finish in front of Gibson on the final lap to take a hard fought and well deserved victory. Following Arp and Gibson across the finish line would by Ronnie Johnson, Paul Tims and a hard charging Lamar Scoggins (who started last after problems in his earlier heat race). With Scoogins’ 5th place finish along with Jamie Perry’s 6th place finish, Soggins now trails Perry by 2 points for the division point’s lead.

The night’s last feature rolled off with the FWD’s while the fans caught their breath. Thomas Gilbert and Derrick Forgey led the field to the green. Forgey would take the caution free victory over Gilbert, Hailey Cresswell and Daniel Burnette.

The nights racing action had come and gone and the fans were treated with some of the closest and finest racing the area has to offer. As a fan was caught saying leaving the racing facility “You just can’t find any better racing anywhere around than what they have here at Boyd’s Speedway week after week”. Thanks to the staff and owners Richard and Robert Harvey along with Track Promoter Gar (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son for their commitment to giving us the finest racing facility around. Next week brings the 700 hp Winged Outlaws along with the areas Mini-Sprints to the 1/3 mile clay oval for their only appearance of the year to the local area. Come early for the best seat as these machine travels around the racing facility at speed well over 100 mph.
