Mick Sansom, of Salt Rock, West Virginia, finished out the 2011 campaign of the STARS/MDRL Series (www.racevrs.com) in the fourth position, only 20 points behind third place finisher Terry Tomlinson. Mick also finished second in the Series’ Rookie of the Year challenge, only 20 points out of first place. Mick last competed at the K-C Raceway in Alma, OH on September 24th and laid down the 13th quickest lap in qualifying of the 27 cars competing that evening. Mick went on to finish eleventh in the $2,000 to- win feature event at the fast 3/8th mile facility. Mick, who finished in 6th place in the 2008 Battle of the Bluegrass Series modifieds, is in his first full year as a dirt late model pilot and drives the family owned SANSOM MOTORSPORTS (SMS) MasterSbilt Race Cars, Dale Meers Racing Engines, Shain Custom Decals #20M entry.

Mick will again return to K-C Raceway for this weekend’s 31st Annual U.S. Steel ‘Dirt Track World Championship’. The team has worked hard over the past weeks preparing for the Lucas Oil Series (lucasdirt.com) sanctioned $50,000 to-win crown jewel event. The DTWC will wrap up action for 2011 for the SMS team as Mick is scheduled for hip surgery on Monday October 17th.
