Ray Cook Victorious in Crate Late Model at EAMS; Lucas Oil Double Shot Ahead

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Ray Cook celebrated in victory lane for the fifth time in 2014 on Sunday, September 28 at the historic East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Alabama! Behind the wheel of his #53 Crate Late Model, Ray went out last in qualifying on Saturday and laid down the fastest lap during time trials to earn the pole position for Sunday's 50-lap headliner. The Brasstown, North Carolina native then officially led from flag-to-flag during the 'Alabama State Championship' race to cash the $5,000 top prize over Ronnie Johnson, Chase Edge, Steven Roberts, and Terrance Nowell!

The team also entered that same MasterSbilt racecar in the pair of Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series showdowns over the 'Alabama State Championship' weekend at EAMS. On Friday night, Ray finished sixth in his consolation race, but later stormed past twelve competitors during the $2,000 to win feature to claim a solid fifth place performance behind only victor Chris Madden, Jake Knowles, Ronnie Johnson, and Ryan King. In Saturday's Chevy 525 Series finale, which boasted a $3,000 payday, Ray once again ran sixth in the B-Main prior to blasting all the way up to seventh in the 50-lapper.

If that wasn't enough racing action for one weekend, Ray also unloaded his Capital racecar to compete in a pair of $4,000 to win Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series (SAS) battles. He started on the pole in Saturday evening's 40-lap main event and led early in the race, but was unfortunately involved in an incident while running second that relegated him to a disappointing seventeenth place effort. In Sunday afternoon's 40-lapper, the popular driver known as the "Tarheel Tiger" wrapped up his ultra-busy weekend with a tenth place run. “We sure did get our racing fix last weekend at East Alabama, if only I could have landed that Pony ride to get a little more track time,” joked Cook earlier this week via telephone. “It was a pretty good weekend for us, especially with the Crate car. We were able to get the win in the Crate class and then it ran strong against the 525s later in the night come feature time. Our Super car was fast on Saturday, but I just made a mistake in lapped traffic and eventually got in a wreck. I think something got bent on the car from the incident because we weren’t nearly as good on Sunday afternoon. We will work hard at the shop this week to get everything put back together before the two Lucas Oil shows at Dixie and Rome!”

The Ray Cook Racing team will travel to the Peach State of Georgia on October 4-5 for a pair of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tilts. The annual running of the ‘Dixie Shootout’ will take place on Saturday night at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia, while the ‘Rome Showdown’ will conclude the doubleheader on Sunday evening at Rome Speedway in Rome, Georgia. Both single-day programs will be highlighted by 50-lap features, which will each boast a $10,000 winner’s check.
