We're seeing a greater number of electrical problems out here in the 4-cylinder racing world. My offering on how to possibly mitigate such problems. Obviously, make certain the battery negative terminal is solidly grounded to the metal chassis. Run a #10 short wire from the back of the engine head to the back of the engine block. The spark plugs in the head need a GOOD ground, & don't chance that the head bolts/studs & head gasket will provide the needed ground. Particularly if you've used a lubricant on the head bolts/studs & a sealer on the head gasket. Go to the local parts store & buy a short battery ground lead, about the diameter of your middle finger, and ground the engine block to the chassis. Don't chance that your solid engine mounts are a sufficient ground. Then if you're running an alternator, make certain it's well-grounded to the engine block/chassis. And lastly, make doggone certain your ignition box/module is grounded commonly to the chassis & engine block/head. MSD claims that many of the problems/parts they're fixing on returned ignition boxes are due to insufficient grounding. GROUNDS...... GROUNDS....... GROUNDS ! Gotta have 'em! Please pass along to all of us, your personal experiences in the electrical grounding area. -Dave-
