no one can answer that for you. depends on how hot you run your oil, blowby, excessive dirt in the engine ect..there will never be a set time for it to change color. why are you obsessed with the color?

Sorry guy's, but as an engine builder I have yet to understand why you would spend thousands of dollars on an engine, but only want to change your oil every 7-10-15-20 races? It really makes no sense to me. Anyone care to explain this thought process? I don't care how good you think your oil of choice is, after about 3 complete nights of racing it's not doing what it's supposed to do.
-
i disagree, after 3 night my oil still looks almost like when i put it in new. have you done some testing to confirm the oil is breaking down after only 3 races? i got my info/suggestions from lake speed jr at joe gibbs.

the second it changes color .. its polluted!
but if it looks reasonable . in a new 5 gallon bucket it goes, with lid. mosty when i run alky.
the pollutents will sink to the bottom and i will recycle when needed.
a lint free cheese cloth works for straining debree/pollutent.if needed.
too the guys that let it go.. your nuts. plain and simple.
crankshaft/bearing wear will prevail!!!
wow........

Got 1400 laps with 800 hp and the builder said the bearings looked absolutely brand new...LOL

Someone earlier mentioned amsoil.
How would Amsoil compare to Gibbs?

1000 laps or so here. crank grinder made a point to ask what i was running since the crank hardly needed a polish. he said "keep it up".

Should say the oil was totally changed once at 650-700 laps...Other than that, would change the two qt filter and top off...

Jeff,
No I was just wondering about such extended run times on the oil. When I was recommending Gibbs oil to customers a few years ago, we would recommend 4-5 races on a wet sump engine between oil changes, depending on racing environment. The only reason I went away from the Gibbs was we noticed a HP & torque difference from fresh oil to oil with simply dyno time on it. We didn't notice that difference with the Mobil 0W-20, 0W-30, and the Renegade 10w-30 & 20w-50. I still think Gibbs is a very good oil however. But for me personally....I still go with the fact that the engine is more expensive than the oil. So I'm for a much more regular oil changing regime on a dirt car.
