CARTERSVILLE, GA – The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season begins this weekend with nine events over three nights on the Week 1 schedule. Dirt Late Model drivers across the country will begin their quest for the 2012 National Championship that will pay $10,000 to the champion, along with bragging rights as the top weekly dirt late model driver in the country.

Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS will run a special Friday night program to open the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season. There are seven races in four different states on the slate for Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series action.

Albany Motor Speedway in Albany, GA will host its first ever NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series event on Saturday night. Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS will be in action on Saturday night along with East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN, Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Whynot Motorsports Park will host a $1,000-to-win NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series event on Saturday night. Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS will present a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series event on Sunday night.

In the previous six seasons, the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series featured two or more Regions. In 2011, Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS won his second West Region title, and Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL won the East Region Championship. The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series has averaged over 400 drivers in each of its six previous seasons.

For the seventh NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season, there will be just one point fund paying out over $20,000 and paying back ten spots in the National point standings. Drivers at NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series tracks will compete with each other using a points system counting their best 14 weekly point totals over the 27-week season that runs through September 30.

Drivers can compete in multiple events each week, but only their highest event single event point total will count for that week’s competition. Drivers can also earn up to 100 Bonus Points that will be added to their best 14-week point total. NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points can be earned two different ways.

A driver can earn 25 Bonus Points for four consecutive weeks of perfect attendance at a single NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series track, and 25 Bonus points can be earned for competing in any NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division event through September 30.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 150-pound weight break.
