Remote oil filter system

I have the remote oil filter attached to my race car. The filter is located near the lf of the car toward the front. The other day I changed the oil and when I started the car I had no oil psi. I checked everything and then tore it down and checked the pump and pick up. All was ok but changed pump while I was there anyways. Still the same problem. I switched the lines at the oil filter and now I have oil psi. Do I have a problem? Is there a check ball in those that stick and have the same problem again? Makes no sense. Please help bc this is my boys first car and I'm sure he will not watch the gauge at first.

i also had this same problem, but it was when i replaced mine, my lines were crossed at the block
