Neat, Bailey, and Haynes, Jr. Provide “Live Action” at Ponderosa Speedway

Junction City, KY- May 11, 2012- Ponderosa Speedway would finally be able to return to action on Friday evening with “Turtleman” serving as the Grand Marshall for the evening’s events and there would be plenty of “live action” as feature event winners from the first event in the month of May would include Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY in Good Neighbor Pharmacy Late Models, Tommy Bailey of Corbin, KY in Clayton Homes Modifieds, and Gerald Haynes, Jr. of Somerset, KY in Ken Towery’s Auto and Tire Care Sportsman.

The brother duo of Dustin Neat and Brad Neat would bring the Good Neighbor Pharmacy Late Model feature field to the green flag, with Brad Neat taking the race lead, with Dustin Neat, Todd Coffman, Justin Rattliff, and Mike Jewell giving chase. As Brad Neat would start lapping slower traffic on lap 6, caution would slow the action. The restart would only see one more lap completed as a four car tangle in turn three involving Johnny Wheeler, Buzz Williams, Dennis Barton, and Timmy Taylor would block the track and draw a red flag. Once action resumed, Brad Neat would hold the lead, while Dustin Neat and Coffman would battle for the second spot. The lapping of slower traffic would begin again on lap 19, but disaster would strike for second place running Dustin Neat as he would tangle with a lapped car and his night would be finished. The final six laps would see Brad Neat pull away from the field and take his second win of the season at Ponderosa Speedway behind the wheel of his Red Buck/Neat’s Service Center/Begley’s General Store sponsored #41 Bandit Race Car powered by a Cornett Race Engine. In a photo finish for second, Todd Coffman would nip Michael Chilton by inches for the spot, while Jewell and Jeremy Hines completed the top five. Eleventh starting Jeff Watson would head up the second five, followed by Kevin Colston, Joey Daniel, 17th starting Kevin Daniels, and Tyler Allen. Twenty-one entries would see Dustin Neat be the top qualifier at 13.902 seconds, while Country 100.9 MIKE FM heat race victories would fall to Dustin Neat, Brad Neat, and Jewell.

The 20 lap Clayton Homes Modified main event would see Jimmy Payne lead early on and then would settle into a side-by-side battle with Tommy Bailey for the top spot beginning on lap 7 and the pair would battle until Bailey would grab the race lead for good on lap 13. Bailey would pull away from Payne in the final five circuits to notch his first win of the season at “The Pond” behind the wheel of the Matthew and Kenneth Jordan owned Jordan Motorsports/Mac-Trac Transportation/Micro Armor Lubricants/Wayne Bowen Racing Supply/Lakeside Towing/Skillsaw Designs/Diamond Auto Collision sponsored #17J Lightning Chassis, powered by a Niebel Race Engine. Payne would settle for second, while Shon Flanary would come home in third, with Benji Lee and Robbie Gullion completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Keith Smith, Elliott Despain, Dustin Linville, Billy Meredith, and Michael England. Twenty-four entries would see Lee as the top qualifier at 14.998 seconds, while Smith Automotive Machine Shop heat wins were scored by Payne, Flanary, and Bailey.

Bartley Grant would lead the opening circuit of the Ken Towery’s Auto and Tire Care Sportsman feature event before mechanical issue would sideline him for the night, allowing Gerald Haynes, Jr. to inherit the race lead. Haynes, Jr. would hold off the challenges of 12th place starting Donnie Sullivan to take the checkered flag first and grab his first win of the season at “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring” aboard his Cornett Race Engines/BSB Manufacturing sponsored #27 Chevy Chevelle. Sullivan would take runner-up honors, followed by Derek Bottoms, Doodle Farris, and Shane Irvin. Haynes, Jr. would also be the top qualifier among 13 entries at 16.342 seconds, while Central Painting heat race checkered flags fell to Haynes, Jr. and Grant.
