England Motors to May Mayhem Modified $1,000 Victory at Ponderosa Speedway

Junction City, KY-May 18, 2012- Ponderosa Speedway would present the 4th Annual May Mayhem for Modifieds on Friday evening and Michael England of Glasgow, KY would become the fourth different winner of the event and claim the $1,000 payday for the Clayton Homes Modified division. Other feature event winners included

Ricky Arms and Bryan Barber would bring the field to the green flag, but action would be halted as J.T. Ayers would make heavy contact with the turn one wall, with Jimmy Payne, Cameron Marlar, and Christian Baker also being collected in the incident, resulting in a red flag. Once underway, Barber would take the race lead and hold it for the first five laps, but would contact a slower car and put debris down and the caution would wave, with Barber pulling in with a flat right rear tire. This would give Arms the lead, with Michael England now in second. England would begin to pressure Arms for the lead and the pair would get to traffic by lap 21, with England taking the lead in traffic off of turn four on lap 22. A caution for Joe David Turner would set up a three lap shootout to finish the event, with England able to hang on for the win in the Kerry Trowbridge owned Automotive Specialists/Tri-County Oil/Gary Johnson Heating and Air sponsored #16 Lightning Chassis powered by a Mullins Race Engine. Don Adams would finish second, with Keith Smith, Elliott Despain, and Jeff Watson completing the top five. Tommy Bailey would head up the second five, followed by Tommy Bailey, Shon Flanary, Rocky Wilson, Trever Thompson, and Joe David Turner. Twenty-two entries would see seven drivers break the existing track record, with Ricky Arms set the top time in Custom Suspensions time trials and earning a $100 bonus with a lap of 14.153 seconds. Smith Automotive Machine Shop heat wins would fall to Arms, Barber, and Smith.

The Good Neighbor Pharmacy Late Model feature event would see Michael Chilton would take the race lead and hold the top spot until the caution waved for Jeff Watson slowing in turn one. The restart would get wild as the trio of Chilton, Joey Daniel, and Dustin Linville getting three-wide for the lead, with Chilton and Daniel contact and the result would see both drivers make contact with the outside wall and Chilton going out of the park over the backstretch wall, resulting in a red flag, with Chilton all right, but finished for the night. Once action resumed, Johnny Wheeler would have the race lead, with Todd Coffman dogging him all the way for the top spot. A caution for debris would slow the action one final time on lap 18, setting up a sprint to the finish. Wheeler and Coffman would be in a dead heat for the lead as the pair took the white flag, with Wheeler able to outdistance Coffman and grab his first win of the season in the Louis and Phyllis Brady owned Louis Brady and the Gang sponsored #31x GRT Race Car powered by a Dale Meers Race Engines. Coffman would take second, with Dustin Linville coming home third after restarting at the rear of the field, while Danny Hatcher and Buzz Williams would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Kevin Colston, Mike Strunk, Tommy Carlton, Clarence Belcher, and Wesley Brummett. Eighteen entries would see Chilton be the top qualifier at 13.264 seconds, with Chilton and Dustin Neat winning the Country 100.9 MIKE FM heats.

Gerald Haynes, Jr. would take the lead from Doodle Farris on lap 3 of the 15 lap Ken Towery’s Auto and Tire Care Sportsman feature and pull away from the field to capture his second straight win aboard his Cornett Racing Engines/BSB Manufacturing sponsored #27 Chevy Chevelle. The remainder of the top five would be Derek Bottoms, Farris, Johnny King, and Joe Walker. Ten entries would see Farris be the top qualifier at 16.359 seconds, with Farris and Haynes, Jr. winning the Central Painting heat events.

The Bob Allen Motor Mall Front Wheel Drives would debut on Friday and 14 year old Jeremy Strunk would lead all 10 laps of the feature event to take the win in the Strunk Motorsports owned D&M Muffler and Tire/Corder’s Engine Works/B.A. Graphix/Delaney Engineering sponsored #15 Acura Integra machine. The remainder of the finishing order would Charles Burton, Eddie Strunk, Joseph Lyons, and Brandon Lucas. Five entries would draw for heat race starting spots, with Jeremy Strunk winning the heat as well.
