    Question * Muncie 2-speed direct drive *

I have a Aluminum Muncie 4-speed converted to a 2 speed internal clutch direct drive like a Bert,Brinn,Falcon. Any body know about these ? I heard they are from Iowa, Raygust (spelling) maybe ?? It has had a lot of machine work done to it, so not a backyard shadetree job. Any idea's ???

Ray Guss from Milan Illinois is the creator that everyone copied on the internal clutch trans. Ray Jr, may or may not be of any help, but I do know of a person in Independence Iowa that rebuilds them and is very close by to me.

    Thumbs up

Thanks for the leads guys. I took this in on trade as labor for a Bert rebuild. Two gears are bad & one of them are on the shaft that has clutch assembly welded to it. Hoping to find parts. Thanks !!

    Yes, 1:1 ratio

when you let off of clutch pedal and pull into 4th gear only the input & output shaft will be turning. 2nd & clutch are no longer turning. Thanks for the leads guys !

What gears do these use? 1st and 3rd or 2nd and 3rd?

Currently running an m21 with a 604. Looks like an improvement, right?
Tranny was in peices, but looks like 2nd & 4th are used.... Yes big improvment, not only are you getting the 13lbs clutch off of crank, you are no longer turning gears inside case. Not sure of others, but this looks\operates just like a bert inside.

Yes. Had one. Didnt like the 1.3 ration for takeoffs.

I never checked it internally. Is it as lw when 1-1 (do the gears turn?).

I like the idea of that Guss 4 spd. Especially when a 4 spd is already in it. Would be a direct swap and easy to change back. Be interesting to see the gains not spinning all those gears and the clutch

Had problems with the Richmond around the pits.

2900 lb SLM, 600 hp Baker motor. Touchy carb. Linkages and pedal setup 'not too smooth'.

would be easier with the truck motor and a lot of pedal travel.

I have a mitchel machine bullet tranny with a ram triple disk in the car now, is it worth changing over to the guss tranny?? Does anyone think it would make a noticable difference?? And if so, what fluid do i need to run in the guss tranny? Any help on this would be much appriciated....
