    Ponderosa Speedway Has Full Program June 22; 17th Annual Pete Abell Memorial June 23

    Junction City, KY- June 17, 2012- Ponderosa Speedway track promoter Larry Yantz and co-promoters Chad and Sarah Yantz will return to action at the 3/8 mile D-shaped red clay oval better known as “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring” with a doubleheader of weekend racing competition with a full program of action on Friday June 22 and the 17th Annual Pete Abell Memorial Saturday June 23, paying $2,000 to win and $200 to start for Good Neighbor Pharmacy Late Models.

    The Friday June 22 event will be a full program of racing action featuring Good Neighbor Pharmacy Late Models racing for $1,200 to win, Clayton Homes Modifieds for $600 to win, Ken Towery’s Auto and Tire Care Sportsman $300, Bob Allen Motor Mall Street Stocks $200 to win (8 car minimum), and Front Wheel Drives $200 to win (four entries or more). The Late Models, Modifieds, and Sportsman will time trial, while Street Stocks and Front Wheel Drives will pill draw for starting positions. All drivers will need to sign in at the registration window up arrival to the track and RACEceivers are mandatory in all divisions. Also the highest finishing Late Model driver in the feature event utilizing a Crate engine will receive a $100 bonus, with the next highest finishing Crate engine car and driver receiving a $50 bonus.

    The Saturday June 23 event will be the 17th Annual Pete Abell Memorial event, paying $2,000 to win and $200 to start for the Good Neighbor Pharmacy Late Models. Also in action on Saturday June 23 will be the Clayton Homes Modifieds for $600 to win, Ken Towery’s Auto and Tire Care Sportsman $300, Bob Allen Motor Mall Street Stocks $200 to win (8 car minimum), and Front Wheel Drives $200 to win (four entries or more). The Late Models, Modifieds, and Sportsman will time trial, while Street Stocks and Front Wheel Drives will pill draw for starting positions.     The Pete Abell Memorial event first appeared on the track’s schedule in 1995 and Darrell Lanigan of Union, KY would win the inaugural event. C.J. Rayburn of Whiteland, IN would take the race win in 1996, while Lanigan would become a repeat winner by scoring the 1997 race win. Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN would claim victory in 1998, with Scott James of Lawrenceburg, IN winning the 1999 event. Timmy Yeager of Harrodsburg, KY would score the race victory in 2000, with Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN winning the 2001 version of the race. The event would not be held in 2002, but Johnny Wheeler of Campbellsville, KY would win the race’s return in 2003, while the 2004 race would be rained out. Steve Hillard of Sadorus, IL would hit paydirt in the Pete Abell race in 2005, with Chris Combs of Isom, KY winning the 2006 version of the race. Aaron Hatton of Mount Sterling, KY would take the victory in 2007, while Victor Lee of Danville, KY would turn a dominant performance in winning the 2008 race. Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would be victorious in 2009, while Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY would win the 2010 event and become only the second repeat winner of the race by claiming the race victory again in 2011.

    Ponderosa Speedway last raced on Friday May 25 and feature event winners included Victor Lee of Danville, KY in Good Neighbor Pharmacy Late Models, Elliott Despain of Campbellsville, KY in Clayton Homes Modifieds, Gerald Haynes, Jr. of Somerset, KY in Ken Towery’s Auto and Tire Care Sportsman, and Rusty Light of Nancy, KY in Bob Allen Motor Mall Front Wheel Drives.

    Current track championship points leaders heading into the Friday June 22 and Saturday June 23 racing events include Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY in Good Neighbor Pharmacy Late Models, Elliott Despain of Campbellsville, KY in Clayton Homes Modifieds, Donnie Sullivan of Stanford, KY in Ken Towery’s Auto and Tire Care Sportsman, and Brandon Holt of New Haven, KY in Bob Allen Motor Mall Front Wheel Drives.

    Ponderosa Speedway is located at 365 Phillips Lane on the Boyle/Lincoln County border, outside of Junction City, KY, just minutes from Danville, KY.
